Job Announcement

Position:  Executive Director       Wisconsin Jobs Now                Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Wisconsin Jobs Now (WJN) is a statewide community organization fighting every day, in every way, to win justice for low-income workers and for communities of color. WJN believes in building power by organizing community members to fight for social, economic, and racial justice at all levels.  The organization has both 501 C(4) and C(3) programs and a current budget of $1.2 million.

Position:

Our next Executive Director will be an experienced leader and manager, skilled fundraiser, and former organizer capable of leading the growth of Wisconsin Jobs Now’s membership base, staff size and capacity, and funding base.   WJN must be well-positioned to take on the serious work mobilizing low-income communities and communities of color in Wisconsin in the 2016 election year. The new Executive Director, along with other WJN staff, will receive intensive and regular support and training from staff at the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD).

The Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) promotes equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. CPD works to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda.

Primary Responsibilities: The Executive Director will:

·  Manage WJN’s base-building, campaign and communications work

·  Raise the funds needed to grow the organization’s impact and profile, from both institutional and individual sources

·  Represent the organization powerfully in coalitions, the media and other public spaces

·  Work with the Board of Directors and its committees to plan WJN’s course and programing.

·  Oversee the work and development of the management team and provide a clear sense of vision, direction and cohesion for the staff as a whole

·  Work closely with CPD to strengthen the organization’s model and organizing practice and fundraising capacity

Job Requirements:

We are seeking a seasoned and visionary social justice leader who is interested in growing the organization into a credible powerhouse for low-income community engagement and mobilization in the 2016 elections and beyond. The ideal candidate should have:

·         A minimum of 5 years management and varied fundraising experience for non-profits, preferably those rooted in social justice, organizing or policy work

·    A solid background in community organizing, including both at the grassroots level and organizing in coalition with political, social justice and labor allies

·    A demonstrated commitment to social justice, strong analysis of systemic oppression based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, and an understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-and moderate-income families

·    Very strong writing and communications skills with a demonstrated capacity to engage and inspire a variety of audiences

·    Excellent organizational skills and good attention to detail; a high level of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and in a leadership role

·    Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations

·    Dedication and ability to work flexible hours

Compensation:  Salary commensurate with experience.  A very competitive benefits package which includes employer-paid health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; generous leave benefits and a 401K program.

WJN is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer and actively recruits people of color, women, individuals with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ community.
