The Kirk Watson Campaign Academy is designed to give students substantial exposure to practical, campaign-style politics in the state of Texas.

This is a unique summer opportunity for college students, recent college graduates, and rising high school seniors to work inside a high-profile campaign. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of modern politics as well as the important policy questions that confront state government. Daily lunch speakers will include current and former elected officials, political consultants, university professors, journalists, and state policy experts.  This is a great opportunity to learn the keys to political campaigns and political organizing, and help Democrats win. The Campaign Academy is dedicated to ensuring that every student has a rewarding and challenging experience, while making a difference in the political system.

The Texas Democratic Party-Kirk Watson Fellowship Program will start on Tuesday May 27th. It will include 1 week of training with the Texas Democratic Party staff, 6 weeks of in depth campaign training at the Kirk Watson Academy, followed by 6 weeks of campaign work in the field on key tier 1 races.

Candidates selected for the paid Kirk Watson, Texas Democratic Party Fellowship will show the following skills:

• Strong written and verbal communications skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to work with a diverse group of organizations and individuals

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, must excel under pressure

• Excellent organizational skills

• Previous campaign experience encouraged

The Fellowship will be a full 40 hour per week commitment with events starting at 10 AM Monday - Friday and going into the evening.
