tasked with advancing the denomination's social justice principles through public policy advocacy and grassroots organizing.

The General Board of Church and Society of The United Methodist Church
is the presence of the church on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. GBCS is
tasked with implementing the Social Principles, which contain stances
taken on social issues and policy by The United Methodist Church. The
2012 Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church states that GBCS
“shall show the members of the Church and the society that the
reconciliation that God effected through Christ involves personal,
social, and civic righteousness….(and will) inform, motivate, train,
organize, and build networks for action toward social justice throughout
society, particularly on the specific issues prioritized by the board.”
Main Responsibilities
Website maintenance

Perform daily content maintenance on agency website

Assist in the creation of a new Wordpress website and aid in the transition of information from old site to new

Meet with various teams to plan and develop site content, style and appearance

Use web content management systems to analyze website usage statistics

Collect information for reports to foundations and boards

Carry out quality assurance checks on content

Report technical problems to IT support staff
-
Assist with legal issues, such as copyright and data protection
Database management

Ensure database is segmented effectively for targeted communication

Perform list maintenance to ensure accurate data for subscribers

Manage the scheduling, testing, and deployment of email campaigns and action alerts

Aid in the creation and deployment of regular mass emails
Other communications duties as assigned

Analyze technology trends and ensure the organization is kept current
with tools and programs to effectively communicate through digital
platforms

Help tell the story of the organization through writing, photography, video, and social media campaigns

Travel domestically and internationally as assigned to accompany
program staff and communicate the work (no more than 10% of your time)
Accountability
The Digital Communications Associate will report to the Director of Communications.
Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field

Proficiency in Wordpress or similar content management system
-
Basic understanding of HTML

Proven experience working with CRM software such as Salsa, Salesforce, NationBuilder, etc.

Competent writer and editor of web and email content
-
Comfort with photography, video and design programs such as the Adobe suite
-
Ability and desire to learn new tasks

Good organizational skills and an ability to meet and impose deadlines

A passion for social justice and an understanding of The United Methodist Church
Compensation
Hourly wage range is $27-$30 per hour and depends on experience.
Benefits include retirement benefits, paid vacation/sick leave, paid
holidays, comprehensive medical, dental and accidental death insurance;
other benefits as outlined in the Employee Personnel Manual. This is a
full-time non-exempt position with potential for overtime.
