Ilene,

Not quite an answer, but an idea: this is both the topic of one of the weeks of the Gamliel Institute Course 2 on Taharah and Shmirah, and a project that students are asked to undertake as part of the course. If you are so inclined, you might want to take that course when it is next offered to access information about this, and learn what others suggest.
