As you may know, Jangouts took party this year in Google Summer of Code (GSoC). Our two awesome students contributed a lot of very valuable work and we are pleased to announce that we have already merged the outcome of one of those projects and released a new version with it.

So version 0.4.7 is available for download in our releases page[1] and also already packaged for (open)SUSE users in our OBS project[2]. The main feature is the new optional integration with Callstats.io (see below), but you can see the full changelog in the already mentioned releases page[1].

To know more about the new feature, check the GSoC project description[3] and the final summary[4] published by its developer Bimalkant (code-master5 on Github). Kudos to him for the hard work and the Callstats.io folks for their guidance.

The new version is already deployed for you all to test and enjoy in our demo server[5]. We also have an alternative url with the new Callstats.io integration activated[6]. Debugging is enabled for the new plugin, so you can sneak what going on with your javascript console in case you are interested in the new Callstats.io plugin.

What's next? Getting more GSoC projects integrated in upcoming stable releases. But surprisingly the next project in the roadmap is the oldest one. In GSoC 2016 Martin Garcia made great progress migrating Jangouts to a recent Angular release[7] but the summer was not enough to finish. That project got stuck but never forgotten and Imobach recently took over it and we plan to have a pre-release of by the end of this year. With that working, it will be time to integrate the new UI coming from our third GSoC student (Ania Bui)... but that's another story.

For the time being, just enjoy the new 0.4.7 release! And remember all contribution (from bug reports to code fixes and everything in between) are always welcome.

Cheers.
