Hi ISSMER!

My name is Neal McMillin, and I’m a grad student studying marine energy. I’m reaching out to this network because I have funding to be in the UK for September and October to conduct research on tidal energy for Dr. Kiki Jenkins’ project at the University of Washington. I am very interested in collaborating with some of you while I’m there. I’ve listened in to all of the thought provoking ISSMER webinars, and I know that interfacing with some of you would be very insightful.

It would be great to know whether any of you would be interested in hosting me for a time while I am in the UK. My living expenses will be covered, but I would enjoy getting to know some of you and hear some of your input on my research on stakeholder learning from tidal energy pilot projects, which is a continuation from my undergrad research trip to Scotland.

So if anyone is going to be around this September or October, and would be willing to give me a place to sit, work, or interact, it’d be great. I’m happy to talk more about my research and trip, so feel free to contact me at this email.

Also, I’ll be presenting at the 2015 RGS conference in Exeter, and I’d love to meet anyone from ISSMER that will also be there.

Best,

-Neal-

Hi Thomas,

My name is Marisa McNatt, and I'm a PhD candidate in Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder, and am part of the ISSMER network.

After completing my comprehensive exam in spring 2015, I moved to Seattle from Boulder, to live with my fiancé, Aaron, full time.

I'm working on my dissertation research full time, more-or-less, from home, but I'd love to become connected with an academic community involved in marine renewables at the University of Washington.  In brief, my dissertation research looks at the multiple factors that have contributed to the success of the Block Island offshore wind farm, currently under construction off the coast of Rhode Island.  Although my research focuses on offshore wind, I'm generally interested in social sciences research on tidal and wave energy, as well.

If you happen to be available sometime over the next few weeks to meet for coffee, I'd be interested to hear if you have any suggestions for becoming involved in the marine renewables field at UW, and it would be great to hear more about your research and trip to the UK.

Best,
Marisa
