Dear ISSMER,

Greetings from the sunny Singapore! I am Mary Ann Quirapas, a research associate from the Energy Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University (ERI@N), I am happy and excited to know about ISSMER and the kind of research work you are all engaged in. Very much appreciative of Prof Laura to let me join in this mailing group.

Just to have a brief introduction, I am also social scientist by background (Degree in PolSci and MSc in Asian Studies) here in NTU. My research works focuses more on policy issues towards renewable energy (i.e. marine renewables) affecting regional energy security here in Southeast Asia. And as an initial step, our team have initiated this regional collaboration three years ago on ocean renewables called SEAcORE (Southeast Asian Collaboration for Ocean Energy) https://blogs.ntu.edu.sg/seacore/

SEAcORE aims to raise awareness in the region about ocean renewables and to drive regional activities on ocean renewables. It serves as an platform for exchange of ideas, technical know-how and expertise among academics, industry players and government stakeholders about ocean/marine renewable energy. Currently, we have R&D ties with different institutes in the region, from Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, etc and is also the technical working group for ocean RE of the ACE (ASEAN Centre for Energy). Recently we published an article of collated work on ocean renewables in Southeast Asia: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1364032114006923  and some reports we wrote with our regional partners: https://blogs.ntu.edu.sg/seacore/publications/

I hope to hear from you all and hopefully could work on some things together. In fact, let me take this opportunity to invite you as well here in this part of the world for the 3rd Asian Wave and Tidal Energy Conference. Singapore is hosting it this year through ERI@N. It would be great to physically meet and get to know you. More information about AWTEC at this page: http://www.awtec.asia/awtec-2016/

Warm regards,

Mary Ann
