We want to use the Islandora PDF Solution Pack (not the Book SP) to display documents (some are manuscripts some were created on typewriters, 3 to 20 pages long each).

The problem we face stems from the fact that we are given these documents as high-quality, page-level TIFF images. We are combinging the TIFF images for a single document into one continuous, web-optimized single PDF for delivery using the PDF Solution Pack.

This works fine, but what should we do with the original TIFF images? Ideally, we should preserve them as high-quality originals, but how do we store them? Should we store each TIFF as a separate datastream of the PDF object? Or, alternatively, store them as separate Fedora Objects with a relationship set to the PDF object? We don't need to display the TIFFs -- only the PDF.

Is there a best practice for this situation? I'd settle for a "good-enough" practice?

Thanks,
Peter MacDonald

Why not use the book SP and alter the view to display the PDF?

I was think of that as an option too, Nelsen. Thanks.

I was even thinking of ingesting all the TIFFs using the Book SP and grabbing the PDF created by Islandora and ingesting that PDF as the OBJ of a separate Islandora PDF object. Then I'd make the Book object "Inactive."

Either might work.

Thanks,
Peter
