Hi,

I'm trying to start the virtual image using virtualbox on a windows 7
machine. I imported the image correctly, but when I try to start it,
it gives me an error message.

"Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Islandora.

Nonexistent host networking interface, name
'vboxnet0' (VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR).

Unknown error creating VM (VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR)."

Any idea what could be the problem?

Danny

Hi, Danny,

In the VirtualBox settings before you boot up an image you can look at the network interfaces that will be available to the guest OS. It looks like the Islandora VBox image is expecting one to exist and be named vboxnet0. Maybe you need to make sure there is one with that name.

Just a guess,

Thanks Alexander.

If I check off 'Enable Network Adapter' (not sure if I should do this)
I don't receive this error anymore.

I do receive another error then:
"VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not
operational. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and
will not be able to boot. Please ensure that you have enabled VT-x/AMD-
V properly in the BIOS of your host computer."

I just tried to import the same image using virtualbox on a 64 bit
vista machine, but the image failed importing around 65%.

"Failed to import appliance C:"

Hi
Be sure to change the system base memory settings to less than 2GB. Also you might want to tweak the network settings to internal network for a start.

Hi victor,

Thanks for your reply.

I reduced the memory to less that 2GB and set the network to internal.
I still get the 64 bit error.

Hi Danny,

1. Are you using the latest version of the VM that was recently posted on the Islandora.ca web site? This version is a 32 bit vm running Ubuntu Linux.
http://islandora.ca/sites/islandora.ca/files/islandoraDownloadVM/Islandora-v1.0.ova.zip
2. Do you have the most recent version of VirtualBox?
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

With the two versions above, my testing shows that the VM works.

I just:
• booted up my 32 bit Windows XP VM
• installed VirtualBox in it
• imported the most recent vm
• booted it up
• logged in to both the Linux Server console and Drupal web interface...

I did receive the networking error that you mention in this email thread. I turned off both network cards and the machine booted fine. So, I shut it down and then re-enbled the nic's (one at a time - may not be necessary to do these one at a time) and it booted back up fine. At this point I was able to log in and the vm could access the internet (it has two network cards so that it can do this - the first allows you to connect to it. The second lets it get out to the internet). FYI, I also had to reduce the amount of ram allocated to the Islandora vm as my XP vm only has 2GB of ram. It seemed to function fine at just under 1GB of memory.

If you have the same versions of the VM and VirtualBox that I tested with, we may be able to help you more if we knew some specifics of your setup.

Cheers,
Gervais

Thanks so much, Gervais. The 32 bit version works on both my pc's.

Next step is figuring out how it works :)

Thanks,
Danny

Hello,

I am still struggling with Virtual box while running VM on it. It throws an error every time saying "nonexistent host networking interface name 'VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR".

My laptop is running on Win 10. I had tried with VM ware 4.3.6 as well as latest version 5.1.22.

But behavior is same in both the versions.

Can anybody has solution for this??

Thanks & regards,
Sagar
