Hello Islandora Testers!

The Islandora 7x-1.11 release candidate is now available and is ready for testing! I'm providing some relevant information and links to get you started.

### Timeline

Testing Deadline: May 25, 2018
Release Date: June 01, 2018

### Test the Release Candidate

Instructions on how to download and run your virtual machine or run vagrant can be found in the release candidate announcement: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/islandora/veCXAtK90FY

### Suggested Test Process

1. Download and build your VM

You might need to have the latest updates for your version of Virtualbox and Vagrant.

How to tell which version is installed from a command line:
vagrant version
vitualbox –version

3. Report issues for your component in JIRA.

Open Bugs in JIRA (Ordered by oldest updated ones)
When opening new Bug JIRA tickets during Testing please put: Fix version 7.x-1.11 and affects 7.x-1.10. 7.x-1.11 is not released so can’t affect 7.x-1.11

Found a Blocker? Make a ticket!! Make sure to mention the release team during this stage (Rosie, Kim and Diego + Module maintainer) to speed things up. Any detail helps!

4. Test JIRA tickets that affect your component and that affect/have been fixed for 7.x-1.11. This includes confirming that open bugs still exist and confirming that resolved/closed tickets have fixed the reported issue

Here is a sample search for tickets related to the Collection Solution Pack for 7.x-1.11:
https://jira.duraspace.org/issues/?filter=-5&jql=fixVersion%20%3D%207.x-1.11%20AND%20component%20%3D%20"Collection%20Solution%20Pack"%20order%20by%20priority%20DESC%2Cupdated%20DESC

Affects version
https://jira.duraspace.org/issues/?filter=-5&jql=affectedVersion%20%3D%207.x-1.11%20AND%20component%20%3D%20"Collection%20Solution%20Pack"%20order%20by%20priority%20DESC%2Cupdated%20DESC

5. Attend Committers meetings to discuss your reported tickets (every other Thursday at 2pm EDT https://islandora.ca/developers/committers_call

6. Check your tests against existing documentation in your components' Github repository and in the Duraspace Wiki. Check to see that information in the documentation is still accurate and up to date, and improve documentation where necessary.

Example link to Collection solution pack github: https://github.com/Islandora/islandora_solution_pack_collection

Example link to collection solution pack Duraspace documentation: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/ISLANDORA/Collection+Solution+Pack as well as relevant collection documentation under Usage

7. When you're finished testing, contribute your tests back. This will be helpful for future testers who can reuse and build upon these testshttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QoMGcDE6T0Im9Pbs1OHC9_rkcjyren71yjAlHdfO-O0/edit?usp=drivesdk

### How to report an issue in JIRA

1. Select the affected component
2. Create issue, fill out form details (include Fix version: 7.x-1.11, Affects version: 7.x-1.10)
3. Fill out the description of the issue. Here is a suggested template to follow:

Description
Steps to Reproduce
Expected Behaviour
Actual Behaviour
Notes

Attach screenshots and sample test files when you can.

### Tester Templates Bank

The tester templates bank is a supporting document for testers. As a tester you are given the freedom and flexibility to test your components in any way you choose, which can sometimes be a little intimidating. This document is designed to streamline and the test process by encouraging standard best practices and hopefully make testing easier for others in the future (especially new for new testers!).

You are encouraged to use it to manage your test process and to also contribute back your tests.

Hi Islanders (ISLANDora testERS),

I downloaded OVA (with Cantaloupe) and it runned OK.

No changes to any settings.

Starting with ingest a book, first issue:

1) FAIL

opened islandora/object/islandora:bookCollection/manage/collection then click "+ Book Batch" (http://localhost:8000/islandora/object/islandora%3AbookCollection/manage/collection/book_batch)
selected a zip with 1 dir + 8 subdir everyone with a tiff
INGESTED: no JP2 neither OCR generated (PDF page yes)

2) PASS

opened islandora/object/islandora:bookCollection/manage/collection then click "+ Add an object to this Collection" (http://localhost:8000/islandora/object/islandora%3AbookCollection/manage/collection/ingest)
No marcxml file, added only title to MODS form, then select PDF (8 pages)
INGESTED: all see good and all datastreams created, IABR is ok and also Openseadragon is OK

Am I wrong?

It's not so important but as we need some book to test modules I think other can find/check this.

Hi Giancarlo, so sorry about that.

Probably the solution packs are not configured/setup on any of the OVAs, i only added the IIIF infra and settings but other settings can be wrong/not functional, probably one of the issues we have with our VMs in general . I will give it a look today, that failing is not promising and if settings are not the culprit then of course we need to address whatever bug is making that ingest fail.
Can you share your test ZIP? Kim, i wonder if it could be a good idea to have all test binaries/zip files etc that people use for testing to be shareable and in a common place, if people want to share them of course. That way other people fixing/making pull requests have easier time addressing the issue using the same test scenarios

Thanks a lot for the feedback Giancarlo, will come back to you as soon as possible

I'm sorry I didn't see any interesting logs, I can search deeper.

Attached pdf and zip I used to ingest.
A common area to download commons books for testing it's very interesting and useful to avoid other type of problems not connected to module testing.

Sorry, I think I was wrong.

After rename tif to OBJ.tif and apply tiff normalization (convert -compress none -flatten -alpha Off source.tif OBJ.tif) ZIP worked!

Attached zip ok.

Dear/Querid@s/Care(i)/Liebe Islandora 7.x-1.11 (Code name: how-awesome-is-islandora) release team members and family,

This is just a heads up on today’s release call. As many of you know we are meeting every two weeks during release times to discuss, share, complain, hang out or just keep the ball rolling and support each other with our assigned release tasks. (group therapy)

Traditionally these calls have been made in North American work hours and pretty much customised for the east coast of the region, but as our European active family has been growing steady we plan to make the next one in a time slot that works better for them, exact time open to discussion and we will let you all know on that on time of course (a lot of “time" in a single sentence!).

Also usually these emails/notifications go only to the Islandora google groups but i will follow Kim’s (your favourite testing manager) lead on this and try to write to each one individually too, when i know/can find their email addressed. If you were left out of this, ping me and include your email and i will a pong you back with gratitude and will include you in the next notice that goes out. Also, please don’t add me to your blacklist/spam.

Cold facts:

When? Today at 2PM EST (will be short, not longer than 30 minutes)

Where? (or how? gosh digital mixes those concepts and makes them dependant)
if fond of voice/sound/screams and background noise:
(i recommend going for Chrome or Firefox here)
Dial-in Number: (641) 715-3570

What?
Heads up on testing, new to this? help needed?
Open questions about how to proceed, what is missing, dates and deadlines.
JIRA tickets of interest. Ongoing discussions
How are we driving? Too slow, too fast? in circles? Let your release managers know.

How long?
Not more than 30 minutes, i promise!. Life’s too short.

Hi all,

into VM (with Cantaloupe) Views UI is not enabled by default, are there any reasons for that?

Good testing,

Giancarlo

I replied by email but looks like it didn't make it here. Sorry for the double-posting!

That's my fault; I didn't check that the scripts/post.sh file completed running. views_ui, admin_menu, and module_filter didn't get enabled. :(  I'll make sure they're on in rc2!

Hi all,

two questions about [islandora_solr_views]:

1) views_php is not installed on VM, is it safe to install? I use a lot of views in my deployments and also views_php so I thought to test views_php in conjunction with islandora_solr_views.

2) islandora_solr_views + views_php doesn't work in Views sort field, setting a single sort criteria "Global: PHP" has no effect on sort: is that "by design" or do I have to open a Jira ticket?

Have a good day,

Giancarlo

Another question:

Drupal on VM presents 3 updates:

Devel    7.x-1.5    7.x-1.6
Views    7.x-3.18    7.x-3.20
Drupal core (Security update)    7.58    7.59

As tester, do we have to update or not?

Thanks

Giancarlo

Yes, you can do that. Some security patches were published after the VM was released. Thanks

Hi Giancarlo,

1) You can install views_php but it is not required to test it for the release. If you notice any issues with islandora_solr_views with views_php or other non islandora core modules you can still open a jira ticket about it

2) is this unexpected behaviour? Can you provide your sort criteria?

I experimented PHP sort criteria with no Islandora solr views and it works.

The sort criteria was very simple:

A) return 1;

and

B) return -1;

You have to see order change when you switch from A to B.

That was my thought, is it right?

Thanks Kim
