Quadrature Encoders

Hi All

i currently don't own one of these IOIO but i have ordered it and it should be on its way soon :D. i have also ordered a Optical Encoder Pair Kit for Micro Metal Gearmotors (5V, http://www.pololu.com/product/2590). i was wondering if i could interface with these encoders directly from the IOIO and if so how would i go about doing that as i have never used encoders before. if you cant interface directly with the encoders is there another way that to do so?

this is for a basic robot that i want to be able to localize and eventually map out a area using android phone.

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

There's no support for encoders currently. Your options are either to implement such support in the IOIO firmware or to have another microcontroller in between, which would monitor the encoders and talk to the IOIO over UART/I2C/SPI.

The easiest way IMO is to have something in the middle to do the translation. Check this project out: http://www.seeedstudio.com/wish/tinyqed-attiny45-quadrature-decoder-p65.
