Key + mouse not working on slave

I have a Trackball Works (yes that is actually the name) trackball from Kensington .

I can invoke very slow cursor movement in the dedicated drivers by assigning a key (I use Shift).

This does not transfer to the slave. I have tried other keys, but no go.

I have no key bindings.
