Dear friends,

Kindly examine and identify this terrestrial Orchid......Visited the locality, where only a few plants were growing,at least on five occassions spread over three months waiting for the buds to bloom. The buds failed to bloom..! Just fancied to open up myself to have a view of the floral parts..........Could this be a Habenaria sp....???

Habit:Herb

Habitat:Terrestrial, dry forest in open blanks with sandy soil

Sighting:Vatehalla,near Belur,Karnataka,about 800 msl

Date:02-09-2016,22-09-2016,17-10-2016,27-10-2016 and 03-11-2016

Thanks and regards

Sorry I had limited internet and somehow i was unable to reply from my mobile.
I know what this is and I would really be happy if you could collect some flowers and take some good images of dissected flower. You can then write an article and i will help you even without authorship. May be you can write with Gurcharan sir
This plant has been so badly interpreted since a long time. I saw this plant during my PhD field work and I identified it as Habenaria pelarioides.
Some people named it as a new genus, Odisha cleistantha but I dont agree, then it got new name in Vietnam which I dont agree either.
Please put in some effort and we can resolve this.

Thanks Pankaj for yor feedback. Unfortunately the bloom time is over now.One thing that I observed was that the flowers did not open up at all .They used to get dark within possibly due to insect pests.....Now that I know the location I will keep a watch

Regards
