Dear Friends,
Came across this Grewia sp. on the way to Sagargad, Alibag.

Family: Tiliaceae

Date/Time: 11-07-2010 / 16:30 hrs

Location: Ahead of Village Khandale on the way to Sagargad (near Alibag).

Habitat: Wild

Plant Habit Shrub (approx. 2 to 3 m)

Leaves: Alternate, 4 to 8cm, irregularly serrate, base rounded, Petioles 1 to 1.5cm tomentose,

Flowers 1 to 1.5cm, sepals 5 white above greenish tomentose beneath, stamens many

In the first pic one leaf at the top-middle is broader than  the rest, in 2nd pic buds look short and ovoid, petal much shorter than sepal.

Please check probability of Grewia abutifolia Juss. (G. aspera Roxb.). But, I am not sure, you have many species over there. Attached here KEY (of white flowers) in 'Botany of Bihar and Orissa'.
