Plant name: Dicliptera cuneata Nees, Pl. Asiat. Rar. 3: 111. 1832. 
Family: Acanthaceae
Description: 
Annual herbs, erect and gabrascent, 50-80 cm tall. Stem 4-angular. Leaves opposite; petiolate; lamina ovate-lanceolate,   4-12 × 2-5 cm, apex acute, base rounded or truncate, glabrescent above and appressed hairy below. Flowers pink, 1-1.5cm long, in axillary or terminal sub-capitate cymes on 3-5 cm long peduncles, 3-5 cymes from each axil. Bracts 2, unequal, bracteoles linear. Calyx lobes 4 mm, linear. Corolla tube 7 mm, hairy, deeply 2 lobed, with dark pink spots on inner side. Stamens 2, included, anthers unequal, cells muticous. Ovary 1 mm, oblong. Capsule ovoid, pubescent.
Habitat & location: Limited to Peninsular India.

Plant name: Dyschoriste erecta (Burm.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen. Pl. 2: 485. 1891. 
Syn. : Dyschoriste depressa (L.) Nees
Ver.names: Erect snake herb (Eng.); adavi neelambaramఅడవినీలంబరాలు  (Tel.).  
Family: AcanthaceaeDescription: 
Perennial slender herbs, 30-50 cm tall. Stems prostrate, angled. Leaves opposite; lamina elliptic-oblong, 5-8 × 2-3cm, entire, base acute, apex apiculate; sparsely hairy. Flowers light purple or lilac with darker stripes, 1.2-1.5 cm long, in 3-9 flowered axillary clusters. Calyx 6 mm long, teeth lanceolate, acute, glandular. Corolla tubular, inflated at upper part, pubescent out side, tube 3-4 cm long, limb 1.5 cm across, violet with darker lines inside. Stamens 4, inserted, unequal; anthers oblong, tailed at base. Ovary bilocular, ovules 4 per locule, style filiform, stigma simple.  Capsule 0.7-1 cm long.
Habitat & location: Rare. Found in rock crevices at hill side forests.

Plant name: Hygrophila salicifolia (Vahl) Nees, Pl. Asiat. Rar. 3: 81. 1832.
Family: Acanthaceae
Description: 
Herbs, annual, 0.3-1 m tall. Stems 4-angled, rooting at lower nodes, glabrescent. Leaves opposite; sessile; lamina 4-10 × 0.8-1.5cm, linear-lanceolate, margin serrate, base attenuate, apex acute. Flowers 4-5mm across, in axillary whorls; bracts linear, bracteoles lanceolate, hispid on mid vein. Calyx lobes 5, divided half way down, lobes acute, unequal, hispid. Corolla pale purplish-blue, 2 lipped. Stamens 4, didynamous, included. G(2); stigma linear. Capsule oblong; seeds 8-12, orbicular, wooly when young.
Habitat & location: Found in moist swamps. 
Medicinal Uses: Same as H.auriculata

Plant name: Justicia nilgherrensis (Nees) Wall. ex C.B.Clarke, Fl. Brit. India 4: 526. 1885.
Family: Acanthaceae
Description:
Herbs, stems procumbent; 30-50cm tall. Leaves opposite; lamina sessile, oblong-lanceolate, 3-4 × 0.5-1 cm, obtuse, entire or incipiently crenulate, glabrous. Flowers white, 0.8-1cm across, in 5-10cm long spikes; bracts 1.5 × 0.7 cm, ovate, acute, with green nerves; bracteoles nearly as large. Calyx lobes five, 5 mm long, all equal, linear acute, connate at base. Corolla white with red lines, tube broadening suddenly above the base: upper lip 8 mm long, very concave, notched: lower lip 1 cm broad, 3-fid; lobes spreading; middle lobe rounded, slightly broader than the laterals. Stamens 2, staminal filaments basally dilated; anthers oblong. Ovary oblong, pubescent; style filiform. Capsule 2 cm long,clavate, puberulous, dark purple above, velvety tomentose, laterally contracted at the base; seeds 4 mm across, papillate.
Habitat & location: Rare. found in rock crevices in high altitudes.

Ver.name: Podapureduపొదపరేడు (Tel.).
Family: Acanthaceae
Description: 
Short woody climber, branchlets tetragonous. Leaves opposite; subsessile; lamina  6-9 ×  3-4.5 cm, ovate, apex acuminate, base cordate, 3-5 ribbed. Flowers deep blue-violet, solitary, axillary; bracteoles 2, 1.5 × 0.5 cm. Calyx 2-2.5 cm, obscurely 5-lobed. Corolla tube 5cm long, 4 cm across, tube white, villous at base inside, lobes subequal, ovate, deep blue-violet. Stamens 4, in pairs; included. Ovary conical; stigma bilamellate, incurved. Capsule 3 × 1.5 cm, globose, beaked; seeds 4, orbicular.
Habitat & location: Occasional in dry hilly areas.

Family: Acanthaceae
Description: 
Viscid under shrubs, 0.3-1m tall. Leaves opposite; lamina 4-7 × 2.5-5cm, ovate, base subcordate, subsessile, margin serrate; upper ones reduced, subtending floral spikes. Flowers blue, about 1.5cm, in 3-8cm long axillary or terminal inturrepted spikes that are viscid and pubescent. Bracts oblong concave, not ribbed. Calyx lobes 5, connate, subequal. Corolla blue, tube ventricose, 1.5 cm long, limb 1.5 cm across, lobes obtuse. Stamens 4, connate below, didinamous, included. G(2), ovary 2 celled, ovules 4 per cell. Capsule 1 cm long, clavate, 8 seeded. Seeds orbicular.
Habitat & location: Common in forest undergrowth on hills.

Ver.names: Christmas pride (Eng.); Nelakurnjiనీలకురుంజి  (Tel.)
Family: Acanthaceae
Description: 
Annual herbs, glabrescent, 1-1.5m tall. Leaves opposite; 7-15 × 3-6cm; ovate, margin serrate, apex acute; upper pair sessile, smaller, subtending the spikes; lower ones petioled. Flowers 2- 2.5cm long, blue-violet in 10-15cm long terminal interrupted spikes; bracts ovate-oblong, 3 ribbed. Calyx lobes 5, 1cm long, unequal, glabrous or puberulent. Corolla ventricose, tube1.5-2 cm long, limb 1.5-2 cm across, lobes 5, blue-violet, with dark patches on throat. Stamens 4, connate and decurrent; 2 anthers longer with large anthers than the posterior short stamens. G(2), ovary 2 celled, ovules 4 per cell; style exerted, curved; stigma linear, slightly inflated. Capsule clavate, 8 seeded. Seed 1mm across, compressed, discoid, densely hairy alround. 
Habitat & location: Common in hill side forest undergrowth.
