Here's what I would ideally like to do. Please tell me if it is possible.

I would like to keep my CS6, sign up for ONLY InDesign CC monthly plan
for a month or two, and still be able to use all my CS6 applications
after I let the IDCC expire.

I am happy with CS6, but I have a project in the offing for which it's
going to be easier to work in CC (because the client has that and has
already done a lot of work on the book, but now I need to go in after
him to fix stuff).

Can I do that, or am I asking for trouble?

As far as I know you can with no problems.

I run CS5 and CC consecutively on Windows 10. I use CS5 since a couple other computers here have that version and if I have to work on something that goes back to them I'm more comfortable using that than passing an IDML back and forth. I use CC when working with universities and other publishers since they usually have the latest version or at least something newer than CS5. Have not had any problems with either installation.

Thanks for confirming. Trying to divine that information from the Adobe
site is, well, I'm sure you know . . .

Should be fine, just be sure to set the preference in Adobe Cloud installer to NOT remove older versions.
Actually, I’m not sure it would remove CS6, it would depend on whether your CS6 is Cloud or stand-alone, but setting it to keep older version is always good if you want old versions.

I have a few versions of InDesign (including CC2018 and CS6) on my computer and they coexist just fine. I make custom icons for each version for my dock (on a Mac) so I can more easily tell them apart when launching.

When you are getting towards the end of the CC project, save copies of those files as IDML just in case you need to open them in CS6 later for some reason. In CC, you can automatically generate the IDML when you package the file.

And if you use different version of InDesign for different clients a lot, you might check out

Rorhiko’s Soxy InDesign plugin….

It will always open an InDesign doc in the version it was saved in.

https://www.rorohiko.com/

For CC2017 and earlier (CC2018 plugin coming soon)

I do this several times a year as the only CC feature I need is the ability to export to a fixed-layout epub. Be extra careful of the gotcha arising when opening a CS6 doc in CC and then saving because it will overwrite your original CS6 file. I always save the CC doc in a separate folder and an idml copy back to the CS6 folder.

Do I have this right. Does it really work on all ccs?
$38 personal use?
