You probably all know about pandoc.org, but if not it produces clean and tidy html from .docx files and converts all sorts of stuff to other stuff. It’s command-line, works on OS X, Linux and Windows, and it’s free.

Yeah, ages ago, I argued that TeXshop should support it for when opening files so as to afford seamless conversions.
