David,

I would love to attend. Do you have a nice 3-day price for me? Also, in case that is too steep for me, do you have a 1-day price for me as an alternate?

I hope you and yours are well,

Mike

I like Mike Witherell's script ideas…

(Hey Mike! Did you see my email to you re: The InDesign Conference coming to DC?)

One other script idea is:

It's especially helpful when you have applied a character style to the numbers.

Hi Mike (and everyone else on this list)… I'm happy to provide everyone on the InDesign Talk mail list a $100 discount to The InDesign Conference. Just use the code IDCDEAL when registering!
http://indesignconference.com

(Mike, as you've been more closely connected to the event in the past, I'm going to email you directly right now.)

I don't mean to spam this list with advertising, by any means, so please forgive me. But The InDesign Conference is one of the best places to learn about InDesign, meet InDesign experts, get your questions answered, and take this awesome virtual community to a live face-to-face community. I hope to meet you all there!

Yes.

Quirks - a constant nag about needing to install some Java thing if I intend to be a java programmer.

My Kensington trackball doesn’t install on start up unless I unplug it and plug it back in.

Some of the right side menu bar icons have been moved around - especially the speaker volume control.

Since I don’t use iCloud, or Siri, the interface with both is a complete waste for me.

Thanks. I don't use iCloud either and have no desire to use Siri. Maybe it will like my ancient Logitech marble mouse. But I think I'll wait for it to have at least one update.

• It broke my wide-format PIXMA iX6520 Canon printer driver.
• Latest Font Agent Pro release won’t work.

If you are talking about SIERRA – you donate really say anywhere which Mac OS you are talking about – it is still early days and normal if things brake. Especially if talking about drivers and font management. Wait for updates. That’s the price you pay for being on it early on.

I’m aware, but the question was "what difficulties occurred”.

How hard can it be to fix a printer driver?
(Previous version of Font Agent seems to work, at least with Adobe)

It is early days. Patience.

You still do not say if we are talking bout Sierra or something else.

Yes, I was talking about Sierra. Sorry I wasn't specific but I figured since it's the only new Mac OS I didn't need to say so.

The jane thing is important if you run Illustrator. And it has to be based on a certain version and upgraded from there. Or at least it did when I got caught by it an OS update ago.

You do not have to be a Java programmer to need to use Java. Many applications rely on it for its features. Java does not get updated with the Mac OS updates and has to be downloaded and installed separately. You need it for many applications to work properly.

Bob,

I had a driver problem with my Pixima and El Capitan.
Canon was no help, my printer is 5 years old and “obsolete” - Canon offered me 50% off a new printer, but no other help.
But re-installing the Lion driver worked — you also have to delete your old printer and add it back.

So far no luck with scanner portion - probably will have to buy separate scanning software for that.

Thank! I’ll try the reinstall idea. BTW, I have used VueScan with good results with my Epson scanner - (My Canon is a stand-alone printer)

I've been happy with VueScan too, with my old HP scanner.

Four or five years ago, I bought a small HP color laser printer on a closeout at Tiger Direct. I didn’t notice it when I bought it, but it only worked with Windows and I have only ever owned Macs. I was miffed until I noodled around on Google and found a place that offered third-party utilities (so-called “hackintosh” apps and drivers, etc.). So I downloaded the driver and vwallah, it woiked. I can’t remember the name of the site right now, but if Canon can’t or won’t give you any help, try that route.
