Any suggestions on how to prepare an ID cs6 doc to export to pdf then to Word or a better plugin than Recosoft ID2Office?

I’m trying to convert an ID cs6 4-page brochure into Word.
So far I’ve done an ID export to pdf then an Acrobat save-as Word. I’ve also tried saving the ID file with Recosoft ID2Office [Mac] Trial version.

ID2Office worked slightly better in chopping up elements to edit like chart made in ID. But Acrobat saving as word saved top h1 paragraph colored rules which ID2Office did not.

Why not stitch all the text flows in InDesign together, then export a .rtf?

Or use Rorohiko’s Text Exporter plug-in, preventing the need to manually link the text boxes.

With PageMaker (remember it?), you could import the text from one PM document to another. You’d be shown a dialog box with the first line of every separate text thread, and the user could define a minimum number of characters for the threads (to eliminate folios, RHs, etc. that you didn’t want to bother deleting later. Then you clicked Okay and PM imported a single story containing all of the stories you selected in the dialog box. All together. And IIRC, if a story ended without a blank ⁋, PM inserted it between the end of one story and the beginning of the next (so they didn’t wind up run-in on the same line). Very handy. It would do almost exactly what you want.

I’ve asked Adobe many times to introduce this feature into ID, but so far they haven’t done so.

And that’s progress a few steps forward, a few steps back…
I was just watching a Lynda.com video about liking text boxes (members

https://www.lynda.com/InDesign-tutorials/076-Quickly-threading-frames-toget
her-unthreading-frames/85324/122176-4.html

It’s mostly about jongware-thread and Rorohico scripts (free) - gets you
part of the way there…

Thanks, David, Anne-Marie.

Watched a lot of Anne-Marie’s lynda.com convert to Office. No magic bullet, so I can pretty much forget the plugins.
It looks like we’ll have to rebuild the ID doc in Word.
Weird save out images then put them into headers appears to be a way to handle layers.
Is there anyway to have bleed for a word doc?

Hi Kat,
You could give this a try:

I have used it to successfully convert PDFs exported from InDesign to Word quite a few times.

They also do a cheaper version that converts just to Word:

Hope these help.

Best regards,
Paul.

Wow, PDF Convertor Master only $24.99.  (Info from app store below.)A lot cheaper than others plugin.
Anybody else had experience with this?

For this project we finally did a perfect ID to PDF to Word after watching watcgubg a lot of Anne-Marie’s lynda.com convert to Office training.  When converting from PDF to Word used the Layout option rather than Text Flow.

In converted-to-Word text editing is lousy as rules, bars, etc are not “within text flow" the way the are in ID. So any text edits can mess with the layout.

We’ll likely have to do a lot more of these. And next year we’ll likely need to do a dozen 100-pg directories. So better to figure this out now.

Anyone tried opening pdfs directly from Word 2013 or 2016. Just discovered this from a lynda.com video.
Anyone tried this? My suspicion is that it doesn’t work any better than Anne-Marie’s method, which so far works as well as the $200 plug ing.
