How does Imgur deal with duplications

Not concerning the API specifically, I've a question on image uploading
When you're just uploading an image already on imgur, do you save it separately like any new image? or do you point to the image and give back a new hash? In that case why not giving back the same hash?

We save it separately with its own hash!
