No proportional thumbnails for old gifs (5-character IDs)?

Take this one for example: http://i.imgur.com/njv8n.gif. The s and b suffixes work fine, you get a square static thumbnail. But with the [tmlh] suffixes, imgur serves the original animated gif. This behavior seems consistent across all 5-character gifs only, not newer ones.

Any way to retrieve larger thumbnails for old gifs?

Definitely a bug! I've logged it internally and will fix this soon :) (hopefully by the EOD, but definitely within the next couple of days!)
