I'm looking at it (http://api.imgur.com/endpoints/gallery#to-gallery) you can set a topic, or let it empty (like I do most often :) but I find tags useful, and it doesn't seem possible to set tags with this endpoint

We currently only allow tagging post-submission (http://api.imgur.com/endpoints/gallery#gallery-tag-vote) I'll add an item to our backlog regarding tagging while submitting :)
