Cannot install IGV on Windows 10

Hello,

When installing IGV on my windows 10 pc, I get an error of software compatibility. Please let me know how to solve this, to be able to use IGV.

We need more information to help you. Which download link did you try? How exactly did you try to install it? What is the exact error message, and when does it appear?

Hello Jim,

I downloaded from his link https://www.broadinstitute.org/software/igv/download the 'Download Windows Package'.

When I try to execute the application that was downloaded, I get an error message stating: 'It is not possible to execute this application on your PC. To obtain a version for your PC please contact the software developer'.

Thanks Jim,

When I do that, the executable runs and then the Java logo appears.. and then nothing else opens.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a Windows 10 computer, but this is unlikely to be a general Windows 10 problem or we would have more reports.   Here are some suggestions until I am able to get access to Windows 10 and test. If I find a problem that can be fixed on this end I will update this thread.

(1) try the "Binary" distribution here: http://data.broadinstitute.org/igv/projects/downloads/IGV_2.3.79.zip.   To use unzip the archive and run "igv.bat", or alternatively run the following from a command prompt:

java -Xmx2000m -Dproduction=true -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -jar igv.jar

(2) If you have IT support see if they can help. The "Windows Package" is a self-extracting zip archive.
