Dear Barry,

to check youtube cdn redirector i can use this link

and the result is like this

So i can check/monitor my ISP DNS get the redirector to where , because HTSNET have 3 upstream NapInfo, Biznet and Pgas. so  some time youtube redirector get the cdn between Napinfo, Biznet and Pgas.

Now akamai also running and direct peer to IIX APJII, so my expectation (i think all apjii member have same idea) my ISP HTSNET can get the akamai cdn direct from IIX APJII because i think HTSNET also get the akamai cdn from our upstream , so how i can check akamai redirector report mapping from my ISP HTSNET ? may be akamai also have the tools like youtube please share to us , to help us analyze our network  when some think go wrong

regards
Harijanto Pribadi

Hi Pak,

While waiting for Pak Barry's answer,

Usually to check if my cluster is working or not, I juat query hostname from one of akamai's client

For example. I use hostname cdn.garenanow.com to check.

It will return the ip address of the current serving akamai cluster. (Need to use the isp's dns, as using different dns will have different result, afaik akamai is still dns based)

But It will be nice to have the same as youtube does. :D

Hi,

"so how to utilize Akamai form IIX APJII? "

past experience, when we deploy new dns servers, we need inform the dns server's public ips to Akamai, so Akamai can "map" it to the most optimized cluster. in my case , the akamai cluster in our data center.

Akamai cluster also do periodic health check to internet, so if it sense the connection is not good. it will shift the traffic to other nearby common cluster.. by changing the dns response.

btw it's good to have a working common akamai cluster in the IIX that can be used by everyone.. as most isp's akamai cluster set only serve their customer only...

Yes, that's the point :D Like I said before, use DNS Bersama APJII to
test, which is "automatically" advertised directly to IIX. But the
response was randomly (ironically didn't got any response from IIX
Cluster). CMIIW.

You're right.
As for my test also using DNS Bersama for resolver, I got Akamai Cache from Indosat (which is NOT my upstream)  through IIX though.

Please be mindful that what you are measuring is where that content is closest to your right now. Content placement is dynamic.

The goal is to optimize you connections into Akamai. Let me work with the team to craft a test procedure that consistently validates that you are mapped properly to the IIX Akamai nodes and can figure out the shortest path.
