Hello,

I'm part of a team developing an application using open data, and we're planning on importing data through the API: http://www.iatiregistry.org/registry-api

My question is this:
Is there any way to find an organisation if you have the iati identifier? For example in the transactions there are often an iati identifier for the providing organisation, but there's no easy way to get data about the organisation other than the name.

Thanks!

Hi Jona

There is a project setup by http://opencirce.org that can be used to lookup an organisation based on the IATI Identifier that I think should give you the information you need.

For example, looking for DFID (GB-1), you can see the information at: http://opencirce.org/org/code/GB-1 And DGIS (NL-1) is http://opencirce.org/org/code/NL-1, or World Bank (44000) is available at http://opencirce.org/org/code/44000.

Please note that the codes are case sensitive, so you need to ensure you enter the codes exactly as they appear within the Registry.

Hope this helps, but please let me know if this does not meet what you need.

Regards

Adrian

Hi Jona

Using the iatiregistry api (a version of CKAN, so check out the latest
api info from them as well) this a bit convoluted, but:
You can get the 'registry id's' of everyone publishing data via the registry,
http://iatiregistry.org/api/3/action/organization_list

then for each registry id you can find out more information, e.g.
http://iatiregistry.org/api/3/action/organization_show?id=aa

and from that you can find the iati-identifier for that organisation.

So to make your own look up service it's a bit of a long way round -
but not too hard.

IATI has it's own 'dashboard', and the csv download from this page
('This tablke as csv'):
http://dashboard.iatistandard.org/publishers.html
has a column with the iati-identifiers each publisher is using in
their data (although this may not match with the registry, and some
are using more than one, when they should only be using one - this is
a data quality issue that needs to be addressed)

I hope that helps.

All the best
