Those who missed this the first time, here is a return engagement on Monday, January 9, 7pm!

They say a great hackerspace is built not on tools, but on the social aspect. At i3Detroit, we love both. And a "social toolkit" is both. We are a hundred and sixty roommates sharing some close quarters and limited resources. So let's increase the social toolkit we can use when someone gets all up in your space. Since we pride ourselves on construction, let's learn to keep conflicts constructive.

The public is invited to a free workshop at i3Detroit on an approach to conflict resolution named Non Violent Communication (NVC). The guest facilitator is Katie Testa from Metro Detroit NVChttps://www.facebook.com/MDNVC/ NVC takes a pragmatic approach which makes everyone more likely to get what we want, and maneuver out of counter-productive rabbit trails.

You know how when you are trained to use the table saw, that does not mean you may no longer use the upright panel saw? In the same way, you can use NVC without dedicating yourself to pacifism. Many times a fight is an ineffective tool for the job, so don't let it be the only tool you know how to use. NVC is a different angle from which to cut through a conflict, which will make you more productive.

The event will be held in the classroom from 7pm to 9pm. Please mark it on your calendar!
