Dear All,

Happy New Year if I haven't said that already!

Mimi and I have been working on a draft HP newsletter. We would really value your feedback on this and / or any more contributions.

The idea as we see it is to have something short and sweet (and colourful!) to keep people in the field informed about what is going on.

Please could you let us know what you think by the end of January?

Many thanks
Suzanne and Mimi

Suzanne and Mimi:

Sorry for this late reply. The newsletter looks really good. The direct link in the text to the Somalia OCHA website is great.

Advice please whether the newsletter attached below is the final version so William Carter can send it out to the network of IFRC watsan delegates in the field.

Can I suggest for the next newsletter you introduce a calendar with a (planned / tentative) training calendar on HP for 2012 from the different organizations?

Thanks, and regards, L.

Hi Libertad,

Thanks so much for this feedback. Great idea to put in a calendar of training. Could people please send me the information that they have? What is IFRC planning for example? I guess that access will normally be restricted? I could include RedR training  - do you know of anything else?

I am struggling to find the time to finalise so it might have to remain as it is for this edition but can I get back to you in one week with the final one as I might be able to do a few quick amendments?

Thanks
Suzanne

Dear Suzanne,

Greetings from India!

Apologies for the delay in coming back on the newsletter.

The newsletter is indeed colourful and also informative yet crisp. I had passed it onto our HP specialists and trainers and have collated the inputs here.

·         This is a good initiative for information exchange and knowledge sharing. The three areas "Research, Training and Advocacy" could also be complemented with one section on "Practice." All these four areas of information need to get significant space, gradually, in the newsletter in case one wants to consider more than 2 pages.

·         The newsletter could begin with an editorial section which can explain significant content given in the issue and also can take reader through various emergencies and achievements/interventions on Hygiene Promotion.

·         The idea of giving good practices (e.g. How do you ensure children wash their hands properly? on page number one; and Menstrual hygiene brief guide for girls on page number two) on the left side of the pages is good in terms of giving quick insights to the practitioners. The same section can also provide the web link to the readers if they wish to know and learn more about these good practices.

·         The idea of giving information about available resources for the use in emergencies (e.g.Cholera guides) is also significant. This section also can provide web link to the readers.

·         One more section of readers thoughts/comments also can be added when the circulation expands.

Further to Libertad’s comments on Upcoming Training Courses in HP, we will be happy to share our training calendar and announcements of the same. I will send a separate mail on the same shortly.

Hope this finds you all well and best wishes for 2012!

Best Regards,

Dear All,

I am trying to put together another newsletter (after a bit of a gap whilst working for Oxfam!). This one will focus on updates in MHM mainly but I was trying to get some more info on any other 'innovations' in HP in emergencies so please let me know if you have anything to share.

Someone suggested a page on training courses planned by different organisations. I'll include the RedR India link to training but does anyone else have anything else they want included?

Many thanks
Suzanne
