(1) GSMA Mobile for Development Utilities programme Innovation Fund (ENGLISH ONLY)

The GSMA Mobile for Development Utilities programme Innovation Fund, supported by UK Aid, is now open for applications.  Our objective is to build and share evidence on the role of mobile in improving or increasing access to energy, clean water or sanitation for underserved consumers and the potential benefits for the mobile industry.

We will award GBP 3.3 million in grant funds to 15 – 17 organisations to trial or scale commercially sustainable mobile-enabled utility services.  Grant sizes vary from GBP 150,000 to 300,000.

To date, we have awarded GBP 6 million to 34 organisations across four continents which have impacted nearly 2.3 million beneficiaries. Between 2013 and 2016, several of these grantees have leveraged their grants to raise over $174 million in investment in total.

We are calling on the following types of organisations to submit their applications for innovative products or services that leverage mobile technology as a significant element of their utility delivery model for projects:

·         Mobile operators

·         Energy, water, or sanitation services providers, including

o    Decentralised service providers

o    Urban and peri-urban utilities and

o    NGOs trialling business model approaches

·         Technology solutions providers.

Applicants must be working in Sub-Saharan Africa or South and Southeast Asia.

Interested organisations should review the grant terms on the website and submit their concept notes by April 16th.

E-mail utilitie...@gsma.com with any questions.

(2)     Rappel: Evaluation Mondiale de l’UNICEF
            UNICEF Global Evaluation on RWS

Version Française  (English below)

Madame, Monsieur,

English Version

Dear Madam / Sir,

As you already know from our previous email, UNICEF is currently conducting a Global Evaluation of its Drinking Water Supply Programming in Rural Areas and Small Towns over the period 2006-2015 (in non-emergency contexts). As part of it, the external evaluation team is launching a global online survey with sector professionals selected for their ongoing collaboration with UNICEF, or their knowledge of the organisation and insights into its water supply approach over the period under review.

As a member of the Rural Water Supply Network, you are a key informant for this online survey. As such, you have the opportunity to give your point of view and suggestions, and therefore contribute to the improvement of UNICEF’s water supply programming going forward. This is the last reminder you will receive from RWSN, and the survey will be closed very soon, so if you want to give your point of view, we advise you to do it right now!

The purpose of this global evaluation is to look back at UNICEF's strategies and interventions over the period of UNICEF's Global WASH Strategy 2006-2015, and examine the relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, as well as performance in terms of equity and innovation/scaling up. The findings and recommendations will inform the next Strategic Plan of UNICEF for 2018-2021 and guide the contribution of the organization towards the SDGs.

Responses to this survey will complement other sources of information (document review, interviews, and 8 country case studies) and help the evaluators formulate recommendations to UNICEF.

Please click on this link to start the survey: https://www.sphinxonline.com/SurveyServer/s/sadokhidri/OLSRWSglobaleval/questionnaire.htm

Please note that with this link, you have to fill the questionnaire in one go. If you want to have the possibility to close it and resume again from where you left off, please write to Camille Salaun (sur...@hydroconseil.com) in order to get a specific link allowing it.

Please make sure you complete the survey by 14th March.

If you feel persons you know could be key informants for this survey - especially UNICEF partners (NGO, government… at national or local level) - , please send their email addresses, names, and positions to Camille (sur...@hydroconseil.com) who will send them a personalized link. We are particularly looking for UNICEF partners: Water Ministry staffs, NGOs, Local authorities, especially from Bolivia, Comoros, Eritrea, Gambia, Guatemala, Guinea Bissau, Honduras, Mongolia, North Korea, Nicaragua, Guinea, Rwanda, Somalia, Swaziland and Yemen.

If you have any questions, please send an email either in English, French, or Spanish to Camille (sur...@hydroconseil.com).

Thank you in advance for your valuable contribution!

The Evaluation team – Hydroconseil, Aguaconsult & CGSW
