Wow this turned into a novel... Sorry! You don't have to read anything you don't want to!

Still haven't found the capacitance humidity sensors, maybe they're in one of the boxes at the library... Looks like a dht11 but with only two leads. I found a device with something similar we can look at and I did toss together an example of playing with capacitance sensing to learn more about it, 'duino resistor ladder using capsense library after checking over the Atmel QTouch and QMatrix design docs, neat stuff!  Everything required is available at the library makerspace, BYOComputer! There's also a bunch of example electronic circuits, sensors, micro-controllers, etc, etc. Myself and others are always willing to help anyone get things setup and on their way to creating a better SkyNet... Or whatever! Generic kits are bundled with everything you need to build an arduino on a breadboard, there are actual arduinos as well, whatever floats your boat. Plenty of sensors/chips/leds/etc Don't be shy! All the parts required for the circuits Laurence linked in the Capacitance to Voltage email are there, resistors/555/lm358, and more, just lacking the particular sensor you want to use. Glad to see Alexx on the mailing list as well, Fritzing is awesome software for the electronics hobbyist!

I'll be bringing in a Google Cardboard VR if anyone wants to check that out.

^- Dats de app, I'm sure there's others though. Not all phones are supported, but I'll have my Nexus4 which is supported.

Me and Mike have been playing with the remnants of the prussia printer off and on when we can, modifications continue! I picked up a few items a while back to try and get it into working shape, progress is being made. Mike won't be there this Wednesday, but depending on what all is going on with the above I might try and get a bit more done on it. New heating elements (had to drill out the hot end block), possibly a new heated glass print bed, oh so lovingly hacked together. Much joking around over who gets to hold the hot stuff while testing and dumping too much current through a breadboard (nothing melted this time!) Do need to find a feeder fan now that I think of it... I hope to get a chance tonight to build out the heated bed controller and look into integrating it non destructively with the RAMPS board.

Have to say we had a lot of fun last Wednesday and accomplished next to nothing! Don't worry I'll try harder to melt that breadboard ;D  I'm terrible with names, but I just remembered Paul's friend had previously showed me some neat QR code image embedding, do you have some examples published on the internet? Better to see for yourself than me try to describe it poorly, very cool stuff. I still want a quadcopter but time constraints and priorities have pushed that back, hopefully next time Tamer is by he'll bring one of his mini-quads! Maybe I should start there given my piloting skills... Think big, start small.

I know I haven't been very active on the mailing list, or active in general with my inbox (so many unread), but I have been there every Wednesday except twice? I will make more of an effort on the mailing list and inbox.

It would be great to have some workshops, but lacking in organization and ability to get people to say they're coming for this or that, hasn't really happened to date. We don't need to have stuff formally scheduled, if you have a desire and it can be accommodated, we do what we can. Often people have a specific itch, that's probably the easiest to address directly. Some stuff is outside of the scope of a Makerspace, I don't think you can go wrong grabbing an Arduino and building some of the examples for an intro to programming or electronics. Even if that's not where you want to be, it's a low barrier to entry that gives you a working knowledge of the fundamentals you can build on in any direction. We should try again to see if there's enough interest to run a workshop. Maybe a poll of what people would be most interested in attending as opposed to what some people can offer, and see if we can't work something out there, but there has to be enough interest in a particular topic to justify organizing something in particular. Inviting people to show up and ask for help with what exactly they might be interested in is easiest. If it's university level general knowledge of a subject that won't happen, going to have to sign up for course, but something focused of any level is possible. How far you want to take things is up to you.

For those who were there last week, rejoice in knowing that while there is no off the shelf replacement for my broken tub tap, 5 minutes with a hot glue gun and some aluminium shims (pronounced in the proper English way! :) has re-enabled the full force of my shower head without having to rip open a wall. I figured I'd have to pull it back out and use silicon, but it's holding up just fine for now at least. Landlord happy about that one!  If you don't know what I'm talking about... don't ask! Making and Hacking isn't restricted to tech.

Cheers,
Nick.
