5My podiatrist loves these shoes and so do I
By Jeff
I bought these because they are zero drop and have a large toe box. My podiatrist says many foot problems are caused by shoes that squeeze the toes instead allowing them to splay out, so he gave me a thumbs up on the Wichitas.

I've done 15-mile day hikes in these. I've backpacked in them. I've done wet stream crossings and the dry out fast. I've worn them on backcountry treks in spring snow. They are super comfortable, lightweight and a joy on the trail. It appears the tread is wearing fast, but the volcanic soils in the Northwest are very abrasive. I may buy another pair now in case they are discontinued.

5I love keens and I love these
By J. W. Metz
First off you must know I am an avid hiker and I work on my feet all day in a distribution center. I bought these (my 14th pair) keens just recently as I liked the styling and liked the light weight hiker aspect. i also wanted something simple for a quick weekend of backpacking but also not to heavily treaded to wear daily at work and include them in my keens rotation and I wanted a pair that breath- my biggest complaint is feet marination. However that is to be expected in an all leather shoe made of quality materials.

Due to trying to get breath ability to my feet I started wearing running shoes at work and developed tendinitis in my Achilles' tendon. Horrible thing to happen, not realizing they were actually causing more stretching of my tendon I kept wearing the tennis shoes until a week ago and I slipped on a pair of my favorite keens. Amazingly enough my leg started feeling better after a month and a half of pain and resigning myself to the idea hiking and backpacking were long of goals my leg started healing. I tried my tennis shoes again and it was horrible, so back to wearing the keens everyday.

As for the Wichita's I love them I'm a big guy at 6'5 300lbs and I wear a 12.5 EE. I tried the size 13 and realized I would get sloppy foot movement after they got worn in a bit. Went with the size 12 and though snug after 3 days of wearing they feel great an keep getting better. They are more breathable than an Austin or Finley but similar feel inside. They aren't as wide as many of their shoes but I am very happy with them and no more tennis shoes for me.

2Very comfortable but not very durable
By Art the Science Guy
SIZE:
This is my second pair of Keen shoes, the first were the KEEN Men's Finlay Casual Shoe in black which run about 1/2 size larger than these. I usually wear either a size 9.5 or 10 (US) and I bought these in size 9.5 and they fit perfectly while the Finlay ran large so those I bought in a size 9.0 and they fit perfectly so be aware of the differences. The last and sole on these shoes is different from the Finlay.
IMPRESSION:
I sprayed these with Scotchgard Leather Protector for Suede and Nubuck, 7-Ounce spray and they were immediately comfortable, so much so I took a four mile walk in them and no blisters or discomfort. I have worn them now for several weeks, every day and they are holding up well. Just a pleasure to wear and look great with jeans. An excellent everyday walking/hiking shoe.

May 03, 2014 Update: I initially gave these shoes five stars as I was very pleased with them for the first few weeks I owned them, so much so that I bought two more pairs, one in Black and one Brown. I alternated wearing them with my other shoes but usually wore the Gargoyle or Brown when I wore the Keen's.

I have downgraded my review because my shoes are not wearing well and I noticed that they are not the same size. Unfortunately, although I bought all three in the same size, the Black shoes are noticeably larger no matter how tightly I lace them. So if you buy the shoes in Black, order a half-size smaller. The Gargoyle and Brown shoes were true to size, the black ones are apparently made in a different factory as the label inside them appears different in color and print style than the other Keen Wichita Hiking shoes that I own.

The soles on the Gargoyle shoes that I bought in December, just five months ago which are not worn every day are wearing down quickly so that the nubs on the bottom of the soles are almost non existent by the heal and the ball of the foot. Comparing the wear with a pair of New Balance hiking shoes, made in Indonesia, that I have worn heavily for several years, the New Balance look a heck of a lot better with much less wear on the soles. I take very good care of them so the top part of the shoes look good but the soles are made of a very soft, non-durable rubber compound that is not lasting. Even my Adidas Adidas Men's Ka Trail Running Shoes that I bought at Sports Authority two years ago for $50.00 and hiked for two weeks in the Rockies and for four weeks in the Smokies not to mention some hiking in Harriman State Park and they show less wear than these $100.00 Keen's. BTW, I never hiked in the Keens and also put a lot of miles just walking in the Adidas.

They really need to improve their quality/durability.
