Great shoe, glad I bought it
By Krowdog
I've started rock scrambling about 2 years ago, as I live only about 15 minutes away from Red Rocks, NV, one of the best climbing spots in the United States. So far I just scramble, but am getting into more technical stuff.
I had been using various running shoes, but wanted to upgrade. The difference is wonderful. The good: 1: The rubber is very sticky 2: The laces go almost to the toe, allowing a great fit on my wide feet. 3: The heel has a tread pattern that grips well when going down hill on loose gravel. 4: The toe is smooth, and allows for improved edging.
The only downside is there isn't much padding in the forefoot. That's the trade off for the improved climbing capability. I have no trouble with it, but I only have to hike 6 to 8 miles round trip to my climbing spots.
I have worked the shoes hard over the last few days, and they look rock solid.
All in all, I'm glad I bought these, and am having much fun on my scrambles/climbs

You might want to ....

Nice Grade V approach/ fast hike /or trail running shoe. I've had these for 2 months and have cycled these into my gear ensemble for about 30 trips. My usual trip is 6 to 10 miles per outing maybe twice a day. The Scarpas pound mostly trails, with scree, talus, limestone and granite. Got dumped on by a couple of T storms the Scarpas got soaked. So far no separation of components. Superior for walk off decents. Good value through Amazon Prime $81.82.
Pros
Lacing system allows for a range of adjustment according to terrain
Very comfy
Solid toe cap good protection
Fit true to size
Light weight
Zero break in
VERY GRIPPY sole, yes these soles will smear, and make good purchase when wet.
Sole built for edging
Tread pattern self cleans or does not accumulate mud
Air drys fairly quick
Solid durable build
You might want to go outside and have
fun
Cons
Laces don't seem to hold as well as when the were new, maybe they have accumulated embedded dirt and sweat. This is not uncommon, Nylon on Nylon tends to slip.
No claims of being water proof, No GTX version. No drain holes
Sticky soles are noisy/tacky on indoor surfaces. Save for outdoors

Excellent.

A note to all new Scarpa buyers; Scarpa generally offers TWO half sizes in between each U.S. whole size. For example, they offer the 45 AND the 45.5 You could say that they are actually 11.33 and 11.66, respectively, and both are technically in between 11 and 12 U.S sizing. Try them on to be sure. I had to return the size 45's and go for the 45.5, but that is what worked for me. The shoe itself is great so far. Sturdy and comfortable. I plan to buy another pair if they hold up well in the long run.
