Format command

If i want to format a pen drive In Hanthana Linux 17 version "Format" Command desn't appear in Right Click menu?

Why is that? Is there any alternate method to format a pen.

No its not there and not safe.
 

Why is that? Is there any alternate method to format a pen.

mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb1

normally /dev/sda is your SATA hard disk and first PARTITION is /dev/sda1 and second one is /dev/sda2

normally pen drive or addional second DISK will be /dev/sdb and third DISK will be /dev/sdc

so most of the time your pen dirve can be format by using following command (if its your second storage) as root or power user
mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb1

Please note that IDE DISKs may show as /dev/hda, /dev/hdb istead of sda or sdb

Moreover you can use gparted if you need a GUI tool for formating. ;)

But you have to select your drive (your system hard disk or the pen drive from the dropdown menu in top-right side corner of the window.

This is not a safe tool to introduce to your kids as they may format your disk drives. :)
