Hello all,

I have come to a Linux seminar at hackerspace on Friday and before the presentation Jörg talked about FOSS-ASIA. I would like to organize a CryptoParty/keysigning during the conference. Will anyone be interested?

If you are curios about what I am talking about, here are some hints:

- *CryptoParty:* Where people come together and talk about how to make online communication more secure. https://www.cryptoparty.in/
- *Keysigning party:* People come together and verify the identities of each other to build/improve the web of trust. Of course, it can be combined with a workshop/CryptoParty. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_signing_party

Keysigning parties are an integral part of FOSDEM in Brussels: https://fosdem.org/2016/keysigning/ I believe it would be very good to organize one here.

I have recently moved to Singapore and I don't know many people around here. So, any suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,

Hello Emin,

We have have efforts to have a regular Cryptoparty twice before. Unfortunately we couldn't gather enough support to keep it running..

I still feel though, there should be enough people on this mailing list who're interested in in crypto and security that would be interested in what you're proposing.

There was a small keysigning event at the last FOSSASIA but I personally feel there needs to be more than just key signing at a cryptoparty. Maybe some talks on crypto related tech?

Hello Chinmay,

Great to hear that there are interested people. Don't be discouraged, these things get off very slowly. I hope the FOSS-Asia attendees will be more interested in secure communication.

Organizers suggested that we organize a small workshop about secure online communication. If we can arrange a time slot, I will be volunteering for it. We can also organize the cryptoparty as a real party of experienced people ("crypto angels" if you will) teaching new comers. At the end, keysigning doesn't make sense if people don't know how to use them.

Organizers also suggested to open a booth/table, so that we can access more people. We can do it if there will be enough volunteers.

As for the workshop and cryptoparty in general, we can talk/give seminars about

- Public/Private key structure,
- Web of Trust,
- using PGP/GPG for email signing and encryption,
- using OTR over Facebook/Gtalk,
- Tor browser
- Using VPN/Proxy
- Decentralization of Internet
- secure communication channels in general, such as Signal, Telegram, crypto.cat.

What do you think?

Cheers,

PS: I am sorry for the late reply, I just saw your email because of a misconfiguration.
