I'm trying to compile growl but I got the error "[BEROR]Code Sign
error: The identity '3rd Party Mac Developer Application' doesn't
match any valid certificate/private key pair in the default keychain".
I tried making a certificate with the name "3rd Party Mac Developer
Application" but I keep getting the error when I try to recompile. Am
I missing something?

You're using the wrong name. Look at the name in the Xcode project build settings and that's what you'll want to use. :)

Under build settings, the code signing identity is 3rd Party Mac
Developer Application".
Isn't that what I should be using?

I tried with that as the name, and I even tried changing the name, but
I still get the same error.

Also, make sure that the trust settings for the Certificate that you created is set to "Always Trust"

This caught me out - don't forget to set the 'certificate type' to 'Code Signing'.  Obvious in retrospect!

(For anyone googling this as I was.)
