Folks,

Venkat will be speaking this March 19th at 6pm on "Design Patterns in the light of Lambdas".

Location:
Dassault Systemes
5005 Wateridge Vista Dr.
San Diego, CA 92121

I learned my Groovy chops from Venkat when I read his book a year ago titled "Programming Groovy 2". He has written books on other topics, such as Scala and Java 8.

For his bio, please see below. He is well-respected in the software development field, and his teaching style is quite excitatory. :)

If you plan to attend and I haven't already confirmed you as a participant, please email me rather than just showing up! That will simply let me make the proper accommodations.

The above address is my office which is located in Sorrento Valley. We will have plenty of snacks and refreshments: pretzels, granola bars, water, juice, soda, etc. We won't have any meals, so feel free to bring something for yourself if you would like.

Those coming will also catch the tail-end of happy hour at my office, which means the company will be supplying "interesting" beverages which might also be available to you.

Topic abstract: Design Patterns in the light of Lambdas
Design patterns are common place in OO programming. With the introduction of lambda expressions in languages like Java, one has to wonder about their influence on design patterns. In this presentation we will take up some of the common design patterns and rework them using lambda expressions. We will also explore some other patterns that are not so common, but are quite useful ways to apply lambdas.

About the speaker:
Dr. Venkat Subramaniam is an award-winning author, founder of Agile Developer, Inc., and an instructional professor at the University of Houston.

He has trained and mentored thousands of software developers in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia, and is a regularly-invited speaker at several international conferences. Venkat helps his clients effectively apply and succeed with agile practices on their software projects.

Venkat is a (co)author of multiple books, including the 2007 Jolt Productivity award winning book Practices of an Agile Developer. His latest book is Functional Programming in Java: Harnessing the Power of Java 8 Lambda Expressions. You can reach him by email at ven...@agiledeveloper.com or on twitter at @venkat_s.

Hope to hear from you!

Everyone,

Let me clarify a few points:
  • This is NOT AN SDJUG MEETING
  • I repeat, this is not a meetup for the San Diego Java User's Group (www.sdjug.org)
  • SDJUG is managed separately and has its own schedule
The below event is an informal meetup for whomever wants to join. The president of SDJUG allowed me to publicize on the SDJUG email list.

It was originally supposed to be a meetup for the San Diego Groovy Grails Group, but we have decided to go off-topic from Groovy.

Also: There is NO ADMISSION FEE. Just let me know ahead of time that are plan to attend.

-Vahid
