OK, Green Labbies!

Freezer Challenge 2017 is out of the gate, and you can start promoting it on your site. See below, and attached files.

Set a goal of 5, 10 or 50 research groups to participate, and just imagine all the great ways you can recognize their efforts.  This is a great outreach and recognition opportunity for better sample access, energy efficiency and you can pair it with safe disposal of samples.  In the end, this will lead to better cold storage management and having fun along the way.

Coordinate it yourself, or find a campaign manager among your staff or students.  Past campaigns have put effort into it, and got savings of $10-50,000, and more, plus freed up shelves and discovered samples and reagent kits. Have a freezer retirement “amnesty”!

Think of how your researchers would like to be recognized: coffee cards?  A picture with the Dean?  A trophy freezer brush? CU Boulder and UC Davis will participate, and U Michigan is already off to a great start!  Who else is in?

Will you go for Denali, Everest award for prestige,   or the Rip Van Winkle award for fun?

Get your promotions and sign-ups going this fall;  entry closes January 13!

               Cheers,

                              Allen Doyle

Don't Get Left Out in the Cold! Join the 2017 North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge

A winter wonderland is a great landscape for the outdoors, but it's not something you want in your lab's freezers. If you're ready to tackle the frozen wilderness of your lab's refrigeration units and improve your cold storage management, the North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge is for you! I2SL and My Green Lab have partnered to create the inaugural North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge, which will take place from January to May 2017. The challenge recognizes participating laboratories for implementing sustainable and cutting-edge cold storage management practices.

All North American laboratories are eligible to participate. Participants will earn points for activities related to responsible and sustainable cold storage practices, such as freezer and sample inventories, temperature tuning, and unplugging unused units. Photo submissions can also earn your lab bonus points! The Freezer Challenge will award its participants based on point totals and points per refrigeration unit at the 2017 I2SL Annual Conference in Boston, Massachusetts.

Join the challenge and strive for sustainability in your lab's cold storage management. For more information on the challenge, eligibility, awards, and how to register, visit the North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge's website or contact in...@mygreenlab.org.
