Hi All

I am a pass out student of NSIT - 2011 batch. I have just got admission for masters in engineering management at Cornell University. Also I am also awaiting replies from Duke, Dartmouth and Columbia for the same course (At Columbia, its management science and engineering). It will be a great help if somebody can help me understand how the course at Cornell is as compared to the counterparts.

Hi,

When you applied for the course, you must have had some expectation about what you wanted to learn. So the best approach would be to check out the coursework and course structure. If the coursework of a university seems good and interesting and matches your expectations, then go for it. Make sure you check out the profile of professors taking those courses. The strength of a department also lies in numbers. If you see a lot of professors/instructors in the Engineering Management department with different interests, it will likely be a better choice, as you will get to attend varied courses in your Masters.
Don't go by rankings at all. They mislead a lot, unless they are done on the basis of a particular area, like MEM in your case. Even then, use your best judgement.
I speak all of it from personal experience.

Congratulations for Cornell and best of luck for the rest.

Hope it helps,
Aviral Goel

Hi Aviral

Thanks a lot for the input. Actually the coursework is almost similar. Yes, I will check the profiles of professors in the concerned department.

Hi Deepika,

I applied to Cornell in early December. Somewhere around 5th December. I got the result on 3rd February. You can drop a mail to cornell meng. in mem in order to ask for a revert back on your application. All the best for your applications.
