I have tried to install Gqrx on a Rikomagic MK902II LE mini-Linux PC which runs XUbuntu 14.10.
I have added the ppa:gqrx/snapshots and I have launched apt-get install gqrx.
Apparently, the installation was successful, but upon launching gqrx I am getting the following
errors. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Mauro Messerotti

Mauro,

it always helps to provide full information! Your MK902II PC, which looks lovely by the way, uses a quad core Cortex A17 processor. That is an ARM processor, not an x86 or x86-64 processor. Checking the gqrx/snapshots PPA there is the rather sad message that the ARM packages for:
  • gqrx
  • gr-osmosdr
  • gr-fcdproplus
  • gr-iqbal
are all marked failed to build: armhf. Intriguingly the failure is only marked for Trusty, but not for Precise or Utopic, but that is a strong indication of something—don't ask me what—not being as it should.

Thus, your installation is best regarded as experimental. More happily, gnuradio is not noted as having failed to build.

The video showing gqrx on the distributor's website shows version 2.3.1 of gqrx in use. One suspects that it was compiled from source, and on to a fully-updated installation. (In the past I've compiled GQRX from source for x86-64 systems, but never since the PPA became available, so am unable to provide guidance for an ARM installation, or for cross-compiling.)

Directly asking the distributor how they got GQRX working would be a good approach. The distributor may be in a position to provide you with working packages.

HTH,

Robin, G8DQX

I don't think the armhf builds in the PPA work. If you search the mail
archives you may find some discussion about it. It basically comes
down to (not) being able to build gnuradio libraries. There should be
a bug report about it on the gnuradio website if you are interested.

Dear Robin,

Thank you for the detailed comments. My last resort is, indeed, to contact the distributors.
I do not have time to invest in cross-compiling etc. and my students have a very tight
schedule, so that I hope to get some operational indications from them otherwise I will
be forced to adopt both different hardware and different software.
