Hello, all,

The download and install instructions went perfectly on Zorin (Ubuntu).

The support for Airspy is great.  Is there a way to make this work with Spyverter?

Also...

A very important goal for me is to be able to operate this radio from other computers on my LAN.  Does anyone know how to do this?  I know it's possible and there is an excellent example at

http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/

I don't want to serve this to the internet, only my LAN.

Thanks in advance.

To enable the spyverter you can either power it through the USB port
or enable the bias-t in the Airspy. The only way to enable the bias-t
in gqrx is to append bias=1 to the device string, i.e. change

airspy=0

to

airspy=0,bias=1

You may have to restart gqrx for it work properly after changing the
device string.
You also have to adjust the "LNB LO" to have the correct frequency
displayed. I think you have to set it to -120 MHz.

For sure it's possible but it requires software written specifically
for that. It's not something that is just available in all SDR
software.

On LAN you could use remote desktop or something like that.

By the way, be careful once you enable the bias-t through gqrx. It
will stay on until you disable it, so don't just connect a DC-shorted
VHF antenna to the airspy afterwards.

Thanks so much for the input! I will give it a try. Mainly I am
interested in SWL.

Regarding the web service... I was thinking that you might be able to
serve the audio data to a small web page via XML or something. I haven't
really programmed that much in a few years and not really much in web stuff.

I have tried using RDP and VNC on my LAN. I can run a different app
(SDR#) that way but the audio doesn't work with that protocol in Remmina
and on an iPad it is very slow and choppy (must be the wireless
connection). I was using VNC with a Raspi3 running OpenWebRX, which is
cool but the interface doesn't support tuning the center frequency of
the radio. You have to navigate to and edit a line in a Python file,
then restart the server. It might be just the thing for a ham, but not
so great for SWL.

Thanks again, Alex.

Cheers!

Gqrx has a remote interface for setting parameters and streaming audio
if that is sufficient for you, but you will probably have to code some
client up for it. Please see the website for details.

Otherwise there is ShinySDR which may be what you want
https://github.com/kpreid/shinysdr

I have been trying to work on the successor of gqrx for years now
which would have both network and transmit capabilities. Unfortunately
I don't seem to be capable of putting gqrx into a maintenance mode
where the user community takes care of itself so that I could focus on
developing the next version. The last few weeks I have been spending
10-20 hours per week on user support alone. Since it is a spare time
project it doesn't leave much time for coding.

It's always about time, isn't it?

I started looking at the documentation for gnuradio this evening. It looks interesting. I've got some degree of familiarity with VB, C++, LAMP, QT, and HTML (but just enough to hack a bit). Python looks interesting. I'll run through the tutorials.

Hello William,

I have no experience with this, but two possible programs come to mind:

1. TeamViewer: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/linux/ . There is a
free for personal use version for the RPi, as well as Mac, iOS, Android and
Windows. https://pages.teamviewer.com/published/raspberrypi/ TeamViewer Host
for Raspberry Pi preview version offers a number of features including but
not limited to Remote Control your Raspberry Pi from any other device running
TeamViewer; Connect to your Pi using either the graphic interface or our
unique headless mode

2. ncat or nmap: https://nmap.org/ncat/ . Ncat is a feature-packed
networking utility which reads and writes data across networks from the
command line.

Thanks, Larry.

Right now I'm looking at picking up some Python skills to see if I can add to an existing project.

My experience with RDP and VNC as it applies to streaming audio from a radio app is that it doesn't work. Apparently there's too much data flow as the audio is choppy. I've gotten somewhat better results by turning off the FFT display or reducing the resolution. That doesn't seem to be necessary with web apps.

I've tried streaming audio through TeamViewer with my songwriting partner and that's dodgy.

Thx again...
