I installed gqrx yersterday on Mint 17.1 and seemed to work but there was a lib update pending on the update manager which I applied and now gqrx seg-faults when I run it. This seems to be because the package isn't installed properly.

Trying sudo apt-get purge gqrx I get told gqrx isn't installed but apt continues to purge all the dependencies which I can then autoremove. Trying to reinstall after the purge I get this problem

Unpacking gqrx (2.3.2.48.f6419f8d-gqrx~trusty4) ...
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/gqrx_2.3.2.48.f6419f8d-gqrx~trusty4_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/man/man1/gqrx.1.gz', which is also in package gqrx-sdr 2.2.0.74.d97bd7-2
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

and indeed there is a gqrx.1.gz in the man folder.

I don't understand Linux package installer so would appreciate any ideas on how to remove the package installer link to the 2.2.0.74 version so I can clean install 2.3.2.48 which I assume is the more recent.

Thanks

Hi Brian,

1. Uninstall gqrx-sdr (the package provided by debian).
2. Then install gqrx (the more recent package provided in our ppa).

Hi Alex,

unfortunately it's not that easy. The ppa installs fail. I have just tried on a fresh install of LXLE (Ubuntu 14.04 based) and I get the following output/error:

sudo apt-get install gqrx

Simon,

I think it fails because you still have the old gnuradio and gr-iqbal
package installed.
Gqrx PPA has gnurtadio 3.7.5. If you look in your output it writes 3.7.2.1

Use "apt-get remove --auto-remove gqrx-sdr" or something similar to
remove everything the previously installed gqrx-sdr package depended
on.

Thanks Alex, I had to manually remove gr-iqbal before the autoremove clean up worked.

I have this habit of doing fresh OS installs and messing up the gqrx install.

Do you have any idea why my HackRF is not recognised by gqrx. It shows up in dmesg as connected (although my netbook looks like it only has USB 1.0 ports so the HackRF probably won't work anyway).

Simon.

You can use the hackrf tools to see if it is properly recognized, e.g.
hackrf_info, hackrf_transfer etc.

Thanks Alex, uninstalling gqrx-sdr (and then autoremove) and installing gqrx did the trick. It's obvious from the messages that the packages had different names but I just didn't spot it - Doh!

Thanks for great support - nice to get my RTL-SDR working on Linux.

Brian

Ah, yes, of course. However I woke up this morning and remembered that I am sure I read somewhere that HackRF definitely needs USB 2.0. I'll just use the FunCube Dongle with the netbook.

Thanks
Simon.
