Hello, I'm running into a problem. I got the ham it up converter, and I cannot figure out how to connect it to my software defined radio. You will see photos hopefully illustrating the issue. The antenna connector will connect to each end of the unit, I would assume that the RF would go to the SDR, and the out goes to the antenna. However when trying this set up, I realized that even with the adapter I have I cannot get my SDR the plug-in, how in the world do you tether this together? Thank you for any help you can give me an advanced.

James,

1) it's most probable that the Ham-It-Up connections are RF to the antenna, and IF to the SDR

2) if you're hoping to hear anything on HF, as opposed to VHF, then the antenna you've shown in the final photo is not it. A wire about 30' (10m) long, outside the house/dwelling would be a good starting point, but there are many other options & complications!

James,

antenna connects to Hamitup RF (Input), connect RTL dongle to IF (Output) socket.

When using the Hamitup for HF, switch the switch to the IF (Output) setting, to leave it in line but to use the RTL dongle without the converter move the switch to the Passthrough setting.

For HF conversion set the LNB LO frequency in gqrx to -125MHz, you can then tune to HF frequencies.

Obviously you need the correct SMA adaptor or patch lead terminated in SMA's to connect the Hamitup and RTL dongle but as Robin has pointed out you are unlikely to receive much with a VHF telescopic antenna indoors. I think you said previously that the RTL dongle you have will receive down to 100kHz but that you were not having much luck with it. Almost certainly this is due to your antenna. Even if you connect a long length of wire and run it around the room it will make a significant difference.

Regards
Simon.

Yeah I know all about the antennas, I mean I cant get them connected, I cant get the SDR connected to the ham it up what so ever.
The antenna I can fix if its really a big problem, I am use to receiving poor condissions so thats not a problem, I cant even get the two connected though, so thats what I want to do is connect the ham it up to the SDR. I got adaptors but no way to connect them.
