Hello,

We are having trouble using GOTS with Statista and LexisNexis Academic. We recently upgraded to beta4.

Statista:
In Chrome, clicking on link to Statista does nothing.

In IE, the browser returns error message:

"This content cannot be displayed in a frame
To help protect the security of information you enter into this website, the publisher of this content does not allow it to be displayed in a frame.
What you can try:
Open this content in a new window"

LexisNexis Academic:
In both Chrome and IE, clicking on a link to LNA works in general, but we cannot use the "Get Company Info" function. That is, we type something in and push Go, but the screen does not advance.

I am guessing that our problem with these two dbs is related to the frame busting issue, but I am not sure what to do about it. I have read through all of the emails re frame busting, but I am still not sure what others are doing about this type of issue or what popup mode is? Is this the same as "Single-page view"? This mode can only affect the right-frame start url, correct? If so, this does not help our situation, because we have users navigate from Homepage > Database Page > Specific Database as a part of the tutorial.

So, I guess my long-winded questions are:

Are others experiencing this problem with Statista and LexisNexis Academic as well? And what are you doing about it?

Thanks,
Blake

Hi Blake,

I tested our Statista and LNA links in Firefox. Our Statista link fails to load. For our LNA link, "Get Company Info" loads the homepage but with a disabled function for "Get Co Info".

But the links work fine for me when I set the tutorial to popup mode.

Popup mode determines the frame view for the entire tutorial, not just the starting URL. The entire tutorial functions as two windows, one for the tutorial frame and another for the "exploration" frame.

It should be an option for tutorials where users navigate from homepage to database. One key thing is to alert the learner they will be working in two windows - they may need to enable popups on their browser.

Cheers,

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the info. I am still not understanding how to set up/use popup mode. What do I put into the Popup Mode field on the admin side (see screenshot) to get Statista to work? I have tried putting another URL into this field, but it always disappears when I save.

What does the student do on his/her side to enable/enter popup mode? Or does it happen automatically?

Thanks,
Blake

Blake, that certainly is a confusing field!

On my library's site, popup mode is a yes/no option in the form of a radio button. (Screenshot attached - our admin site in iOS on Firefox.) There's no need to enter a URL and the learner does not need to do anything. The tutorial is fixed as popup or not.

I'm guessing you can reconfigure the field. Maybe others in this group with installation expertise can provide some help.

Good luck!

Aha! Thank you, Graham. I was feeling quite slow about the whole thing - turns out it's not functioning correctly. Now, I will re-post/investigate the bug :)
