Hi there, I'm having trouble making a GoTS for this site: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Trope

It keeps leaping out of the right frame and opening in a new window. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Amy

Hi Amy, the jumping out of the frame is a known and frustrating issue. The good news is that it is at the top of the list for fixing in the next development sprint that Mike plans to do. As soon as it is fixed we will let the community know so that people can install the fix.

Have a great day!

Leslie

I'm having that same problem with every website.  Did I miss the update/fix info?
Many thanks,

Hi Everyone - Mike and Ginger have been working on our library’s website so have not been able to fix this issue as quickly as we had hoped. They do have a fix that is close to being ready to deploy. The plan is to try it at the UAL first and then make it available to the GotS community as soon as we have tested it. Sorry for the delay – hopefully this helps.

Hi Ellen! You should be able to set how the links open through the target dropdown? Will you let us know if that is not working and we can try to figure out if there is a fix?

Thanks!

Leslie

Hi all,

We are currently struggling with this issue and wondering if a fix was deployed or might still be in the works.

Does anyone have work-arounds for the problem of links opening in new windows?

In our case, we are trying to find a solution for links within LibGuides, which we want to open in a new window in LibGuides, but in the same frame in GoTS.

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I just found your message in my spam folder.

The strategy you suggest doesn't work very well for us, because we are displaying a LibGuide within GoTS, and the links in that LibGuide are set up to open in a new window (which is how we want it to work). So, we can't adjust the target settings on a link-by-link basis.

We found a work-around though. Within LibGuides, we added some custom code saying that, if the link is being opened in a frame, make the existing window the target. That seems to have worked.

Thanks again for your reply.

Ellen

Hello Ellen,

That would be a very useful workaround. Would you be willing to share the code you used?

Thanks,

Graham

Hi Graham,

I work with Ellen and here is the solution we use for LibGuides https://gist.github.com/bcarno/e32b4a2f3579c9b66b4f18b3364ecb35

It's fairly low tech and may not work in every situation, but it certainly does work for LibGuides. The code does require jQuery, but LibGuides does include that library already.
