Do I need to be very good in programming?

I wonder if I need to be very strong in programming in order to eligible to participate in GSoc. Any comments will be appreciated.

It is quite relative thing. Focus rather on challenging yourself with new projects, internships, or try applying for gsoc. That is what gets you out of comfort, which is the best way to learn. Cheers
