Pros and Cons when hosting KML Files

Hi, can any Google Map Experts tell me the pros and cons when hosting KML Files via Google Site or via your own server?

I am new to Google Maps and currently developing a web app using Google Maps. I have successfully rendered the KML Files to my Google Map via hosting it in a google site.

But I just want to ask the differences (pros and cons) if I would host it in my server / via google site.
