I do not think that it is logical for Google to move the word 'Persian Gulf' from Google map. Persian Gulf is a historical name and UN has several times ask all the nations to use this word instead of other names for this geographical waters. What do yopu think? Do not you think that getting involved in stupid political negotiates will discredit the nature of science which has to be pure and fair. The name is obvious and the legal documents is obvious as well. I have several times edited it on the map but I have not received any updates.

The Persian Gulf has not been removed from the map.  People have been made to think it has been removed by politicians trying to gain attention.  You can  find it right here http://g.co/maps/sfz5j.  Please stop trying to add it to the map, you are simply creating duplicates.  Whenever you try to add a feature to the map, you should always search for it first to make sure you are not creating a duplicate.

True, it's not removed completely, but all these people think it's been removed because the name is not rendering on the map.

Coupled with the name actually rendering for the Gulf of Oman to the east, it really appears as if it did get removed.

Many things do not render on the map.  In this case, there is a name controversy, Google has taken what seems to be a logical choice in deciding not to make one of them display.  One side of the controversy is upset that Persian Gulf does not display.  The other side is upset that the Arabian Gulf is not displayed.  Google has said "Yes, neither has ever displayed, but the are there and thus you can still find them on the map, get directions, etc.".

They are by far not the first to get affected by this battle.  As an example, pay attention to the news media, they have been calling it simply "The Gulf" for years.  By having them both on the map, Google is actually being more accommodating than most that have had to deal with this controversy.

Oh really?!

Thank you for the link to the nameless gulf... However, when I was looking at the map, I noticed the "Gulf Of Oman"... and wondered why is there no name for the "Persian Gulf"?! Yes, "Persian Gulf".

Google has no right to get into these political games... This is is a move in the direction of Pan-Arabic mentality that was promoted by stupid people like "Saddam Hussein"... It is steps toward ethnic cleansing in the region by Arabs... First Iranians, then Jews... Or maybe first Jews, then Iranians... Depends on who's weaker at the time...

It is shameful that Google enters these games.

Are you real... Gulf of Oman is there, Persian Gulf isn't.

What are you trying to deny?!

Maps are cultural representations of the political landscape on Earth. Google cannot escape the fact that there are competing interests for how Google should name the Persian Gulf.

Just look to street names in Budapest, Hungary for how names serve political identity:

Not trying to deny anything.  There are millions of marker on the map that don't display.  Google has to use algorithms to decide the popularity of items to decide which ones to display.  People come to these forums all the time to ask why their business doesn't display but the one next door does, and it all comes down to popularity.  The Gulf of Oman isn't disputed and thus it's name displays.  There is a dispute with the gulf, both proposed names are unpopular to large groups, therefore they aren't displayed.

Google has no right to get into these political games...

It is shameful that Google enters these games.

This just made me shake my head.  You need to look at this objectively.  The fact that a politician has made this a big thing and has a bunch of people like yourself swarming all over the internet putting up posts like this... you don't see that YOU'RE the one participating in a political game?   If Google had deleted the Persian Gulf marker and made the Arabian Gulf marker prominently display, that would have been them playing political games.  They didn't do either, they are taking the path that is least offensive to the majority; which is the exact opposite of what you are accusing them of doing.  Stop letting a politicization use you to play his political games!!!

I see your logic very weak!
1- Google is not in a position to judge whether a region's name should be on the map or not! Google must display names according to the United Nations guidelines.
2- Have Google received an order from any court to remove a name from the map?!
3- Please be sure that soon we gather our forces and complain to the International Court about this illegal action of Google. Although Google has a lot of money...But the truth cannot be altered with Money!!!

I would be more worried about the unsettling prospect of being blown to kingdom come by my enemies than whether or not a politically disputed feature has a name that prominently shows up a third party map, but that's me.

Google also uses http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com as its data provider, this is clearly indicated Persian Gulf. It seems that motives for not displaying the Persian Gulf are political. The UN is a highly recognized organization and they use the name Persian Gulf, what is the reason that Google ignores this? see also: http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/persiangulf.htm

It is a shame for Google by not displaying the correct name. I am honest to say that i do not give a damn if people think it's offensive. The name "Persian Gulf" is the official one, and thats it. It is nothing to argue about, and I am comfort to say that all of you who think "Arabian Gulf" (or what the h*ll you wanna call it) is the correct name, or if you even consider it a right decision by Google to make and hide the real name - You are... I could use invective words, but I wont because it's pointless...

This is not even a problem, it is just something that exaggerated so much that even Google decides to close their eyes and take the easiest route out. It is cowardry not to stand up and ignore those IDIOTS!

Name calling is not in keeping with a harmonious world-wide mapping community. It would be appreciated if you avoided such activity.
