Hello Yemen & ailin : Keep mapping quality edits and try to avoid adding any bad edit as (more) denials may prevent you from becoming a RER.

Also, keep reviewing others edits frequently that will give an idea about reviewing also help your edits to get approved by others quickly.

THanks...

Hi,

In addition to Akif post let me say that GMM team and/or your local/regional RERs will, most certainly, notice the quality of both your edits and reviews and take that into consideration for a potential RER proposal.

Meanwhile this GMM pages give us all great information/guidelines:

Cheers;)

I am working on a campus map app for android devices for a class project at Southern Illinois University. How can I hurry the process of approving all the campus paths that I create? Can I become a regional expert reviewer for the area? I have been in Carbondale for over 10 years and a student for 4 years.

Thank You,
William

Hi William,

There is a difference between a reviewer and an editor.  You cannot review your own edits, so being a reviewer would not help.

As you do more and more good edits, your edit trust level will rise and you will start to see trail additions auto-approve.

The best way to increase your trust level in a certain type of edit quickly is to work in multiple areas at once.

William,

You can feel free to email me and we can work on the area together if you want. I haven't been down to SIU since the early 90s but between us we can probably get some things improved there.

Let me know.

Steve

I am trying my best to make google maps better, but many of my edits have stayed there unapproved for a long time, anyone could give me some advice to become a trusted map maker by google?
Thx!

Being a trusted reviewer gives you no extra trust in your own mapping.  Just make good edits, and the reviews that trusted reviewers give you will add to your trust; that is the only method available to us all.

Also, be aware that POIs in many countries never get auto-approval.

If they've been sitting for a while, consider posting them in the review-request sub-forum.  Please be sure to format the title as mentioned in the first post, and to also be aware that only trusted reviewers from your area can push through edits, so even this method might take time as you wait for a local volunteer to look at that sub-forum.

RER status gives you access to people directly working for Google as well as software and other information.   That is more valuable than the trust level.

No software, though playing with Ground Truth would be fun. *hint hint* Haven't heard from my contact at Google in over a month, maybe they're all busy with making MapMaker better! Luckily our forum is still followed by some of the 'powers that be.' Not too much inside baseball but we do get some tidbits here and there. The real benifit to being an RER is the ability to push edits through the approval process, ie 1 RER approval typically means it gets published right away (more sensitive features require more approval).

My understanding is that there is a stand alone version of Google Mapmaker (not the mapmaker.com one).  The RER forums do seem to be read more frequently by Google Employees which is a help. And once a month with a Google Contact is better than zero.  :)

One of the most frustrating things about mapmaker is the incredibly long review times.  People come in, it looks like nothing is happening and then don't bother coming back.  That is why as far as I am concerned in Canada, for example, there should be an RER from each province who is active and can speed this process up in that province.  Maybe even more from different parts of the province based upon how much there is to cover.  Without the local knowledge the review process is going to get more and more difficult as the information becomes more and more detailed.  It will also become harder to get the trust level needed to push through changes.  Similarly other countries would be broken down by state or province with representation at more of a local level   The new badge system at least indicates to other mappers that they are getting some where which is an improvement.

Now I know lots of people will jump in and say that this is already what is happening.  What I am saying is that it is not happening enough.

Based on my trust level I can push through immediately most road and trail edits up to minor arteries.  Some of the longer ones require approval, this would make sense since I always concentrated on small sections at a time.

There is no standalone version; as Andrew stated we do not get extra software.  The RER forums are not read any extra, and the contact we have with employees is of late severely limited.  When it does occur, they cannot give us any information that is not public knowledge; we have not signed NDAs so they are careful with what they tell us.  Most of our contact is to simply get told what we are doing right or wrong with our reviews.  The RER forums do seem to have the one extra in that something they want enforced but don't want to have to deal with are posted there.  For example, the whole matter with escort services; they post it there and expect us to communicate it with the world, and then don't provide back up.  I'm not sure you can call that a positive.

Andrew's statement is correct; the big thing is being able to review things and have most finalized based on your review.  This means you actually have to be interested in reviewing rather than editing.
