Creating a Custom Trail?

So there is no way for me to create my own custom trail? It seems that my trail overlap with existing trail - therefore I can't create it? Also, why can't they be longer than 5km?

Map Maker is the interface to change the base map that everyone sees.  If you want to make a custom map, go to Google Maps and click on My Places on the left side.
