I have thoroughly enjoyed using Google Finance My Portfolio for the past 10+ years as it has saved me from logging into my bank account to review my holdings.  As Google has chosen to fold the Portfolio feature, Can anyone suggest an alternative website to track stock changes?  I have used Yahoo Finance, Reuters, and Morningstar in the past and may have to go back to these sites again.  Thanks for any suggestions

For an alternative, take a look at Morningstar's Portfolio option. I have a premium account, so I'm not sure how many of the features I'm looking at are available to someone who just registers a free account. I don't use it actively, since I maintain my portfolios in EXCEL. Here's the FAQ:

I tried to create a new portfolio with a CSV file, and it worked. I'll try to show some reports, but I'm not sure if Google Groups will show them properly in this post...

One of my existing portfolios has a "My Performance" tab that shows total returns back to 2009, including a graph and an annual breakdown. You can even see the details of each holding that go into the performance. Also a total trailing return chart for various time periods. For example:

Thanks. I just created a free account for myself. Hopefully they have tools to help importing data easily.

i think Wikinvest.com might be the way to go, but i don't think there's a way to keep transactions in there (which i liked)

Yahoo's straight portfolio function is significantly better than Google.  It allows a tremendous amount of customization.  I was using it for years and only switched to Google because of it's portfolio charting.  It updates automatically including totals and day's gain etc.

As of now I'm not aware of any other portfolio than Google that provides charting.

For those using Windows PCs, I suggest you look at Investment Account Manager 3.0. I have been using it for many years and find it a better alternative to online portfolio managers - (not to mention the improved security of keeping your portfolio off the web). It is a comprehensive product that allows tracking of a wide number of asset types. It has a large set of reports that allow you to better make decisions.

The software has a rich help function that will guide you through setup and help deal with most types of situations (think splits, buy backs, exchanges, spin offs tenders, etc. to name a few).

I can also tell you from experience that the support from Quant IX, the company that created IAM, is superb. Emails to support are replied to rapidly (sometimes within hours) with the help requested. As an example of the quality of support, I moved my assets to a broker that is not in the usual list. I reached out to Quant IX who added that broker to the list of downloadable brokers they supported.

Since the company provides a 30 day free trial, I recommend anyone looking for replacement for Google Finance My Portfolio to give it a try. You can find out more about the software and download a free trial at https://www.investmentaccountmanager.com/. The program comes with a sample portfolio to play with before entering your own.

it looks like IAM charges an additional subscription for live data--true? do you know how much they charge annually?

That's not quite correct. Pricing data is pulled down from the Internet whenever you click a button to Update Prices. When you do that, all prices for assets in your portfolio will be updated. That is part of the core IAM product (I do it every time I open the software). The company also offers a subscription (for $40/year) to QuoteMedia. According to the web site this provides "users the ability to automatically populate and update the fundamental and descriptive data for common stocks, exchange traded and mutual funds." This additionally loads data like earnings, dividends, etc. when you click to update prices. It's not necessary for managing your portfolio. But, it provides more info for evaluating assets. Note that you can always enter that data into the program yourself, if you don't have that subscription.

According to the website, purchasing a license to the program for $89 also includes 1 year of support (via email) and updates. For $40 extra, you get the QuoteMedia subscription. After the 1st year, support/updates are $59 for 1 year without a QuoteMedia subscription and $99 for 1 year support/updates with a QuoteMedia subscription.

Simply Wall St is a free alternative to the Portfolio tracker, and much more:

Hi -
I just tried Simply Wall St.  It didn't recognize VG mutual funds or some iShares ETFs (EFAV) so I didn't get past the portfolio setup stage.  The copy/paste function worked excellent and the site overall looks great.
