Req: Sr. Network Administrator

 

Location: Boston, MA

 

Duration of assignment: 1 year
 
 

 

Responsibilities for Sr. Network Administrator:

The Contractor will assist and mentor the desktop support staff and network administrator to further enhance the environment and the support required by the Division.

The Division requires coverage during regular business hours (8:00 AM-5:00 PM) and 24 hours on call coverage continuously throughout the year. It is extremely important that the system is operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week. 

The Sr. Network Administrator will be responsible for all HCF VDC Hardware Monitoring

        •All the physical servers (Dell PEs), storage systems (Dell and ExaGrid), networking devices (switches, routers, hubs, etc) in the server room are assumed to be under warranty or valid service contract with their vendors. The Contractor is responsible for tracking and ensuring that all hardware and software maintenance and licensing renewals are proactively up to date.

        In the event of unforeseen physical failure, the Contractor will contact the hardware vendor, while taking proper action to minimize the impact of the failure.

        The operational statuses of all physical servers (Dell PEs), storage systems (Dell and ExaGrid), networking devices (switches, routers, hubs, etc) in the server room will be closely monitored via infrastructure/network server monitoring tools during normal business hours (8:00 AM-5:00 PM).

        The Contractor assures that the VDC server room’s physical environment (air conditioning, power supply, walls, ceiling and floor, fire/water-proof, etc) is safe and sound [but?] assumes no responsibilities for its environmental failures nor the impact of said failures to all the physical servers (Dell PEs), storage systems (Dell and ExaGrid), networking devices (switches, routers, hubs, etc) in the server room. It is DHCFP’s responsibility to arrange access to the office if off hours work is necessary.

The Contractor will be responsible for all VDC Infrastructure Management:

                    SAN Storage System

                    Volume Provisioning

        Group/Pools/Members/Volumes Management through Dell Group Manager

        Group/Pool/Members/Volumes/IO/connections/throughput/utilization monitoring through SAN Headquarters                            

        Hosts and Clusters

        The hosts and clusters will be managed using vSphere client against the VC Server

        Hosts are routinely examined and monitored to ensure availability and performance

        Guests

        Windows Guest Provisioning

        Linux Guest Provisioning

        Window Updates, Patch Updates

        Perform gap analysis on existing windows update and patch update setups

        Ensure Window Updates, Patch Updates to be performed regularly and/or according to schedule

 

The Contractor will be responsible for Backup and Disaster Recovery management:

        Perform gap analysis on existing backup systems and job setups

        Optimize job scheduling based on the analysis

        Optimize space consumption based on the analysis

        Perform scheduled restores to ensure backup’s usability

 

In the case of any software/data corruption and loss due to any unforeseeable natural disaster, hardware failures/software failure, data center environment failures and any other failures , the contractor is responsible for coordinating and executing all disaster recovery activities related to this event.

The Contractor will be responsible for VDC Infrastructure Resource Utilization Optimization and Performance Service. The Contractor will prioritize work in this category as soon as possible.

        Storage System Optimization and Performance Tuning

        Volume provisioning status analysis

        Volume re-provisioning and migration

        Volume defragmentation

 

The Contractor will be responsible for ESX Hosts Optimization and Performance Tuning

•           Use existing or new Performance Monitoring Application for VMware ESX Server

•           Apply Performance Tuning Best Practices for ESX Server 4

•           Disable unnecessary services and excessive logging

•           Linux Kernel Level tuning

 

The Contractor will be responsible for managing the SAN Private Network

        Review current IP assignment and network nodes

        Review switch running configuration and VLANs

        Obtain performance counters

 

The Contractor will also work with any security assessment groups including those done for PCI compliance.

The Contractor will be responsible for VDC Windows 2000/2003/2008 Enterprise Servers and SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 R2/2012 Optimization and Performance Service

        Windows Server Guest vCPU/Memory/Disk space provisioning

        SQLServer Guest vCPU/Memory/Disk space provisioning

        Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 Enterprise Servers performance tuning

        With Microsoft “Performance Tuning Guidelines for Windows Servers”

        SQLServer performance tuning with Microsoft “Troubleshooting Performance Problems in SQL Server 2005, 2008R2 and 2012.

        Windows Server and SQLServer performance measuring with Contractor’s VDCPerf with different VM configurations.

        Apply Windows Server and SQL Server VDC specific performance tuning experiences

 

Qualifications for Sr. Network Administrator:

Education:

BS or BA degree in computer science or related field as well as a CCNA, CCNP, MCSE or MCSA certification

Technical:

Experience: 7+ years in server administration and 3 years data center administration minimum. General infrastructure experience with multiple technologies including Cisco networks, Windows servers, including:

        Cisco Switches, Firewall, VMWare virtualization, Monitoring Tools, SQL Database, Antivirus

        Eight or more years of experience in network and server design and architecture


* Four or more years of experience in VmwareVSphere,and VCenter
* Four or more years of experience with Cisco switches in a LAN/WAN environment
* Experience actively maintaining and supporting Windows 2003/2008
* Experience with DNS/WINS
* Experience with Barracuda equipment
* Application support experience with Microsoft Office 2010, antivirus
* Experience with SAN/NAS systems
* Experience with Microsoft SQL 2005/2008 and higher

Knowledge:

Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines and varying degrees of technical experience.
